want to dive the comal river, like saturday sept 30. (sorry, don't want to go when it's trashfest for my first time at the comal.......want to do small group)..........has there been any rain? are conditions decent??

We dove the Comal twice last weekend - Fri & Sun. Conditions were nice, but there's too damn much trash on the bottom. We cleaned up the Guadalupe on Sat with worse conditions, the Comal cleanups in the next two weekends should be a breeze. OK cuurent up to the chute at Prince Solms, awesome current at the last drop-off.

Prince Solms is the better Comal dive location, IMHO. Max depth was 12 feet and averaged 6 feet most of the dive. We dove this past weekend for over an hour on a short fill tank at Prince Solms. Saw a turtle and fish and less beer cans there. We dove the last drop off and if you head west the depth averages 3 to 4 feet (I kept popping up) but it you head east the depth gets to 10 feet and averages about 6 feet. But you will have to swim back against the current if you head east since that is the last public exit. The last exit, 5 of us dove and we had about a 25 min dive using a short fill tank, due to the heavy current and fighting to stay down. There is much more of a current at the last drop off. The visability is much better in the comal than the Guadalupe and there are less tubers. Enjoy!

If you were above the Tube Chute then you were diving Hinmann Island Park, On weekends the City usually cones off the parking (across from golf course) for Hinmann Island park and you have to park at Prince Solms park (paying the $5) then walk to the Concrete stairs at Hinmann. If you walk all the way to the first set of stairs at Hinmann Island Park you can get a pretty good drift dive in and average depths around 8', until you get past the last set of stairs then you can get to 12-15'.

We were above the shoot- yes we were at Hinmann Island Park and were able to park infront of the bathrooms by the golf course. This was the better dive, IMHO.
Yes, the last drop off that I refer to is the last public exit with stairs. Thanks for the clarification. We had to park a long way away and walk to the last set of stairs. It is near the water park and parking was by permit only all along the streets. The current was really active over there. Nice visability, though.
