Any time I schedule a surgery I go into DVR hoarding mode. I even like law and order, but after four episodes back to back I'm ready to move on to something else.

Between the history channel and discovery channel there's always some marathon going on. I've also been cleaning out my dvr. I'd forgot ton about half of what I had recorded there.

BCD: did OW checkout dives in a Stiletto LTD that I replaced with a Halcyon BP/W as soon as I found out they existed (probably after about 20 dives). Have added an AL plate and larger wings since moving to doubles, but still have the SS BP and old 27lb Pioneer wing for single tank.

Regs: Still have the yoke Atomic ST1 I did OW with, still use it for single tank. The SS1 and standard length primary have been replace by a 7' hose/bungied octo. Added DIN M1s when I moved to doubles, and some Apeks DS4/TX50s for stages. Would love to convert everything to DIN ST1 first stages with monel pistons/M1 second stages with rings... but that's a lot of unnecessary spending:)

Computers: Still have the Cobalt I used in OW and for most of my dives since, though it recently flooded and the NIB replacement is up for sale. Started using an SPG and Petrel back in November of last year, and added a Predator for redundancy last month.

Fins: Started with fancy AA smoke on the water splits that fluttered great, moved to jets early on after my first couple wreck dives revealed weakness in frog/back kicking. The splits are still in the closet somewhere, and I'd use them for easy reef dives if I thought about it.

Mask: still using the same mask from OW, bought a extra as a backup for overhead solo dives.

Snorkel: recently had the basic black cressi snorkle I used in OW go missing from the car after it took a visit to the local mechanic's shop...haven't bothered to buy a new one.

Random gear dead-ends sitting in the closet: 20cf Zeagle RaZor pony system (sits in the closet since I went to isolated doubles and/or slung AL80 stage); Zeagle spool/SMB zip-on pouch (nice, but there are better ways if you're not diving an LTD model BCD); STA (no single tank wing I want needs one).

Completely, and I haven't even been diving that long (coming up on 4 years).
quickly changed from a standard bc/reg set to a single tank wing, with hog regs on a long hose. Went from a 2mm shorty to a drysuit, and have now traded in my single tank set-up for twins, canister light, etc

Started out with a USD Mistral double hose regulator and a USD Mae West vest, USD round mask and J tube snorkel and Voit Skindiver A66 fins and all the way back to the same basic outfit, 45 years later.

I've bought more. I buy almost all used gear. I've collected I think 7 or 8 sets of fins now, 5 masks, 7 second stages and 5 first stages, 3 tanks, I think 8 BCs (most of which have been cannibalized) and a ton of other miscellaneous gear.

I still use my SP Mk5/G250 reg as my primary but I did replace the genesis octo with a Voit/Swimaster MR12 II. I bought a new to me computer to replace my original one (which I gave to my brother) and I've cut up my console to make wrist mounts for my computer and compass. I also moved to a long hose config with bungeed backup because it just makes sense to me.

I've sold the original jacket style BC to a fellow SB poster. I now rock a backplate with homemade wing.

The biggest change is I dive in cold water. When I started I had no intention of ever being in water colder than 70 degrees Fahrenheit. At this point roughly half of my dives are in water colder than that and a good third of them are in water in the 40s. I'm diving dry now too, which I never expected.

So how has your gear changed and why did you change it?
Interesting post.

Biggest change is addition of lots of gear. But, looking strictly at what I started with, and what I use now:

Mask: started with an Ocean Master View 3 purge. Big, expensive, single lens, large volume purge. Now use SeaDive Caribbean. Small volume, dual lens, inexpensive. Still have Ocean Master in a box in the closet.

Fins: Mares Quattro. Still use them for all recreational diving. Original pair were stolen in 2010 (9 years after purchase). Bought an identical replacement pair. Now have JetFins for doubles.

Exposure suit: Henderson 3mm full suit. Now have two Henderson 3 mm suits (not original, which was stolen), but have added pockets. Plus added drysuit, and 5 mm suit.

Snorkel: Sidedraft original. Now have two, but not original (which was stolen).

Reg: Original was Zeagle 50D with ZX second stage. Still have it and still use it as my primary recreational single cylinder reg. But I have multiple other singles and doubles regs (including 8 more 50Ds, plus a bunch of Apeks regs, all of which I like equally well).

Cylinder: AL80 was first cylinder. Still have it, but it is used now as a deco bottle. Moved to single 120, then double 120s, then double 100s, double 80s, double 130s, etc. Favorite single cylinder is now HP100, but I still dive single AL80 and single HP120s.

BCD: Zeagle Ranger was first BCD, now dive SS BP for recreational and technical. Still have Ranger, and now dive it again (sat in a closet for 8 years) every once in a while.

Light: First Light was a pistol grip C8. It was stolen. Now use a 10 watt can light and multiple LED back-up lights.

Weights: First system was weight-integrated, now use weight belt.

Knife: started with blunt tip 8 inch straight knife. Now use EMT shears and 1 inch folding Buck Knife back-up.

Computer: Vytec for 8 years, then added Nitek He, then Liquvision X1. Sold Vytec and bought (used) HeLO2.

Reels: started with (cheap) Trident reel, replaced it with several used Dive Rite wreck reels anf Halcyon spool.

Financial ststus: started out solvent, now. . .

So how has your gear changed and why did you change it?

The only significant change was that we tossed our dive tables for computers. Why? Bottom time. We went from pushing the edge of the tables to having way too much bottom time left over.

Most of my gear is original (or direct replacement) 20 year old gear. No "upgrades" as our style of diving has not changed, so our original gear still works fine. I am on my second set of booties, second bcd and third wetsuit, but only because the first ones wore out (my bcd developed a bunch of pin hole leaks were the bladder was worn through). Still using original fins, mask, weight belt and (gasp) snorkel. Well I think I have a snorkel somewhere in the dive bag. I remember seeing it a few years ago...

I did upgrade from no camera, to an (monsterously large) Ampibico / Sony video set up, to a sea & sea still rig. That's about the only upgrade.

I also have my original dive buddy. No plans for an an upgrade. Well, none that I am aware of.

I bought this to hold our gear

48 in. Multi-Purpose Wardrobe Cabinet-12336 at The Home Depot

When I run out of space, I start looking at what needs to be moved along. Usually to be piled on top of it.
It holds two compete sets of gear, 4 tanks, weights, regs, spare parts, tool box, mesh gear bags, dive caddy, a couple is pelican boxes, etc. Pretty much everything but wetsuits and skins, they are hung up in a spare bedroom closet.

Koozeman,

I will definitely look at those! My girlfriend has moved in and I guess its time to do some organizing and cleaning. Thanks for the info!

Its fairly disorganized right now, but this is the inside. I picked up some organizing tubs at walmart that fit the shelves perfectly. dive locker.jpg For some reason its loading sideways?!?!
