Hi mike ... where in Indonesia are you?

Used to do a bit of diving there about 12 or so years ago ... Tulamben, Amed, Menjangan, also did a trip to Bunaken Marine Park at Manado and the Gilli Islands off Lombok.

Was wondering how the diving is there these days ... and how teh liberty wreck is holding up, even back then you could notice some deterioration
i was just in amed and tulamben last week. still great divin for sure. the Liberty is still a great wreck too! but a heck of a lot of divers, luckily i live here (in sanur, bali) so i can pick and choose good times to go there like the early afternoon when most folks have finished. it has certainly deteriorated since you were there but the jacks and corals and fish are still absolutely fantastic..

gilis got hit by el nino in 98 or so, so most of the hard coral is gone. still lots of fish and coral on certain sites. by far the best place i have ever been for turtles though!

Come on over again, i think you will enjoy

you 2 are a double act! heheheh anyways, you bought the crocs for the mrs so i blame you ;)

jibbitz are the decorations for the crocs - i think you have a crab on yours.

oh ... thanks ... not a crab it is a Gecko ... :)

hmm .. have been thinking about that for a while ... the wife is a Canuck (origiinally from Thunder Bay and then Prince George) and the only tropical diving she has done is a trip to New Guinea two years ago.

I have heard that diving is a bit more relaxed there these days, when I was diving there it was impossible to just hire a tank you had to go with one of the dive operators and if my memory serves me correctly you were looking at something like $60US a double ... doesn't sound that bad now but back then was quite expensive.

Still remember my first trip to Tulamben and the village ladies carrying two gear bags (one in each hand) and balancing a full 88 on their heads and walking a couple of hundred yards along the beach to the wreck site. I guess with the dive shops on the doorstep nowadays this doesnt happen, back then the closest shop was in Sanur.

We are looking to do a dive trip later this year so we may end up over there.

Thanks for stimulating the memories.

On the Cairns Highway coming into the city this morning there was a 3 metre salt water crocodile that leap out onto the highway that got run over by someone on their way to work.

After the Radio announced it, a huge gathering went to look. As this was all happening, a 6 metre python decided it was a good meal and started to devour it.

Other than that... for the divers,

Sunshine mixed with 30 knot winds makes for those going North a tempramental week of diving.

P.S.... whay are we all Hot Chicks. Did I miss something in my absence??
what hot chicks???

well ive just been told no diving for me next weekend... gotta hit the Bunnings store and pimp the company products for our yearly show of corporate strength and moral :lotsalove:

so i expect next weeks dive reports to be full of bad viz and cold water :D

what hot chicks???

take a peek at all the avatars ... I is a hot chick ... wasnt last time i looked ... shecking again ... nope still the same

Well I certainly hope that the seas are flat and the viz is good

... ditch the job and dive ... flat seas good viz and warm water in sydney is harder to find than another job and even if you cant find another job it just gives you more time to dive

you lost me at "that got run over by someone on their way to work"

anyone sydney person knows a queensland would stop for dinner!

:D
