Just looking for serious (ok, maybe some humorous) suggestions on how to make yourself almost instantly recognizable underwater.
I dive with many different people and would like to make it easy on them to find me. I am also a DMC and will be leading divers for money in the near future so I’d like to make it easy for them to spot me. I also think it would come in useful when diving with groups of divers that if I’m recognizable underwater as a DM then they could approach me underwater if they are having problems.

Thanks in advance for the suggestions!

I know an instructor/DM who wears one blue fin and one yellow one. Very effective.

Shape won't do it you gotta think color. Custom wetsuits are the best option IMO. Off the rack color is scant these days, especially in any real thickness.

If I were to pick 1 item it would be something like a yellow hood.

oops, forgot to mention I dive warm water. often just swimsuit and dive gear. I was thinking about spiraling reflective tape on my tank or maybe painting something crazy on it. whatcha' think?

Yellow or Red paint pen on the bottom of your fins "Follow Me" is good for a DM. Has to be reapplied often, especially if you do alot of shore entries.

I was thinking about this myself one day, and thought of a rubber ducky tied to one end of a 30-40cm piece of rope, other end tied to my tank, so it floats above your head...

Ducky has to be bouayant, and have holes for water in/out. Different shapes optional. Haven't tried it yet..., let me know :D:D

Initials on bottom of fins, name on tank with stick on letters.

That sounds pretty good, Tigern. The blue/yellow fin combo sounds like the best method, though. Bear in mind that your tank is going to be mostly covered by your BC straps, and the first thing your buddies are going to see, if they are behind you, is your fins. I know a divemaster who has a boonie hat with a chin strap, that he wears when he dives.

I'm usually the one trailing blood through the water. Anyone for a shark dive? :D

One of my dive buddies has pink hearts drawn on the bottom of her fins (as well as all over the rest of her gear :) ).

PerroneFord has some neat reflective tape on his tanks with his initials, but that might not be as effective where there is lots of ambient light.

I've found colored fins to be easy to spot and follow.

Carry a roll of flagging ribbon. Each diver in the group gets a flag on an ankle and the DM gets one on each. Works awsome for cattle boats or other groups.
