Rescue involves: equipment familiarization/preparation, hazard recognition/prevention, site planning, recognition of an emergency, communication protocols, in-water action, water egress, treatment and evacuation. Some instructors gloss over (or don't even cover) some of these areas.
Find an Instructor who covers all aspects in a holistic way. S/he should allow ample time for each student to gain actual hands-on experience, as well as provide adequate opportunity for a productive critique for each scenario.
