I know I'm over thinking this but after not doing it correctly last lesson I'm trying to figure out where I went wrong last time. I don't feel I jumped in but I definatly entered two footed at the same time. I strided out with one foot and then kicked with the other whilst in mid air so both feet were side by side as in a standing position and then plunged into the water before bobbing back up.

I know this is incorrect and from what I can gather the correct method is to push off with one foot into a giant stride so you legs are like a scissor and to enter the water like this and then kick both feet together to stop you sinking too much.

Any hints and tips on this would be useful, I know about the looking straight ahead etc. I guess I need a step by what to do with each foot at what time rather than a look forward and stride. I'm probably over thinking it but want to get it right.

You have defined the problem and found the solution. Now go and do it correctly.

As long as you don't hop doing it the way you did isn't so bad. In fact on an entry from a boat with a drop of several feet putting your legs back together will keep your outdoor plumbing where it belongs instead of ending up with indoor plumbing.

The air in your bc will return you to the surface.

Keeping your feet pointed in front of you (as opposed to fins vertical) also mean you wont submerge on hitting anywhere near as far without popping back up. If swimming for a shot buoy then you dont lose sight of it. Also if its a few feet drop into the water it hurts less.

Worst hard boat ive dived off was a backward roll over the side dropping 6ft into the water. Most people hurt their ears on hitting the water hard. Wont use that boat again...

Basically think of it as walking onto the water. Look at the
horizen and then start " your walk ". When you hit the water your
legs should come together, as they do when your walking, which will bring you to the surface, providing you inflated your BC.

You have the idea, just don't think about it, just walk ( Stride )onto the water.;)

Are you making an assumption here?????;)

Okay to summise:-

Pool entry or short drop entry:-

Push off with one foot into a giant stride so you legs are like a scissor and to enter the water like this and then kick both legs together to stop you sinking too much. So both legs enter the water like /\ as opposed to ||.

Long drop entry:-

As above but both legs are like || as opposed to /\. To keep your meat and two veg in good condition.

perfect :)

I drop 3 feet or so from the back of my sailboat, and I do /\. My head just barely enters the water, and oftentimes the crown of my head does not, even with doubles.

How high are you guys jumping from that would warrant || and concern for my parsels?
