My wife and I were planning on an April trip to Fiji. At the time we made the reservation with a travel agency I bought Travel Guard insurance for the cost of the whole trip. We were doing 7 days on the Aggressor and another 5 nights at a land resort. It was about a 8500.00 trip so I bought insurance.

Last week I found out that because of reasons out of our control we can't go. I was interested if any of you have ever had to cancel a trip and what is the correct proceedure for gettting back the money we have paid (about 1/2 of total so far)

Should I first write to the Travel Agent and explain, or should I go directly to the Insurance company????? Are there some circumstances that the travel agency or the insurance agency might not let us get our money back?

Any suggestion would be deeply appreciated...

Phil,
I would contact your travel agent if the insurance was purchased thru them. I have had to cancel trips many times for my clients and this is another reason I recommend using Travel Specialists. There shouldn't be any problems but you will more than likely not get 100% back, but @ 80%. Travel Guard is an excellent Ins.

Phil,
I would recommend reading the insurance paper work carefully prior to doing anything. Sometimes the wrong wording can cost you. Trip insurance has specific things they do and do not cover.

Good Luck

For a $17,000 claim, I'd talk to my attorney first.

It should all go well, but being prepared for problems is always good.
