Shearwater has some nice YouTube videos of how a dive will run. It is almost like doing a dive with one.
Once you start diving you should be able to work with some of the more advanced features. I would expect someone to know the basics of there new computer on the first dive. I also expect them to need a few dives to really get what all it can do.
