I may be mistaken, but I don't think the Calypso J was available until about 1970. Up until that time, the Calypso regulators were diphragm first stages, based upon the original Calypso. Then with the advent of the Calypso J, USD changed to a piston first stage. Before the piston first stage on the Calypso, there could not have been a Calypso J.
Looking at Dr. Sam Miller's numbers above, I think that was probably the model #1070. Before that, the 1964 Model #1050 was the original Calypso with a diaphragm balanced first stage (first balanced first stage, I believe, on the market). The next model, #1048, went away from the diaphragm with the exhaust built into it to a more conventional second stage. There was a minor change in the first stage too, with a change in the hose attachment to a more conventional (now) setup with the normal LP inlet (the earlier ones attached directly to the first stage). Then, in 1970 I believe USD went to the piston first stage, and the possibility of having the J-valve built into the first stage.
