Not sure where you are getting them from. We have it in writing from our supplier.

I had it in writing also that they were clean. Lots of good that does when you can stick your finger inside the tank and run it around and it comes out filthy with residue on it.

I'm just saying, just because they put it in writing, doesn't mean it's really clean.

We're selling about 15-30 a month, we PP blend, we haven't blown up yet.

while 95-99% of the time, you're prob ok. the "YET" part might get you that other 1%. But I hope not.

We're selling Aluminum 80's for $160 and are doing quite well with it.

That's a good and fair price for a new AL80. :thumb:

Like I said, we haven't had a problem, no need to change what we're doing. Of course we look inside every tank before we put the valve in. The tanks come with a plug installed that is o-ring sealed. We've been doing this for 27+ years and haven't had an issue yet.

glad you guys haven't had any issues.

while what we experienced I think was a very rare case, it was enough to prove that you don't know what you're getting and voided any trust we have of them.

Here is the answer to your question:

You need to use hot water and a non-oil based detergent cleaner (like Simple Green or Blue Gold) to wash the inside of the cylinder. Most shops that do this have a tree that sticks up inside the cylinder with it up side down. And they have a dryer of some sort to dry the inside of the cylinder. The DIY forum and the Oxyhacker book by Airspeed Press have discriptions of how to do this.

Cylinder valves do NOT usually come oxygen ready from the factory unless you order it that way or the manufacturer usually shipps them that way. The vavle will most likely need to be disassembled, completely cleaned of the silicon lubricant it was assembled with and reassembled with oxygen compatable o-rings (Viton o-rings) and oxygen compatable lubricant, like 111 or Christo-lube.

You can get a lot of this at ANDI online Store and at Airspeed Press Homepage - Books For Serious Divers
