How much backup equipment is needed?

Actually, it is a good question : How much backup equipment is needed?
It depends the kind of dives. For cave diving, you do want backup, for the tank, for the light, some people have a back-up mask...
I never saw someone with back-up fins !

diving solo, deep dive, diving far from the shore, rebreather diving... are some other reason to think about back up.
But what do you back-up ? It depends of which part of your equipment you are able to deal without ?
an example : a deep dive without SMB ? a deep dive without decompression information ? a Wreck dive without cutting device ? A night dive without light...

So the picture looks funny, but when you start to think about it, sometimes, you would bring so many things...

8 regulators may be a bit overkill though...Probably used half of one of his 5 tanks of air just filling the hoses.

I have two BCDs- one for travel and one for local cold water diving and two dive computers as far as backup gear is concerned.
Having a pony bottle would be a good backup device and extra regulator.
