I have hundreds of dives at our local sites - many I have been teaching at for years - so I have at least 4-5 sites with over 500 dives per site. I always find new things and something different to see.

Jeni,

Where in MO are you? I have some friends there that may be able to point you to a closer spot.

I dive the local lake here in Arizona. Viz sucks, it is chilly, there is very little life to see and can be a pain with the drunk boaters that don't know what a dive flag means. It is ok though because I am diving! Also, it is great to work on skills since there is nothing to distract you :)

I'm in Kansas City. I would LOVE to hear of a closer place! I wish more than anything I had a site within 1-2 hours, that I could go to in a days trip. I really feel like I live in the wrong place for diving right now and it's bothersome.

I've got well over 1,000 dives at the Casino Point Dive Park (plus a few thousand more at other sites). It is close (I can walk to it if I'm not carrying gear), I see different behaviors or species on many of those dives, and just enjoy diving wherever I am. Of course one of the greatest attractions is that so many other divers come to dive it from all around the world and I love the chance to socialize with them

I've got hundreds of dives on certain house reefs and UK quarries.

When I lived in Jeddah (Saudi Arabia) for 7 years I had several dive sites that I frequented, one in the creek opposite the compound that I lived in (every Monday was night dive night - and it was a week breaker as we worked Sat-Wed) plus I shared a cabin with several other people on a private beach in North Obhur where we usually did a night dive on Wednesdays, stayed over and two more dives on the Thursday morning.

Cannot beat the sight of hundreds of gill raker mackeral swimming around at 7 in the morning, absolutely stunning.

The beauty of diving the same site frequently is that you get to know it intimately and as a photographer this is beneficial when you can return to the same spot time after time.

With only 12 dives under my belt, this poll isn't really saying much for me. I have 9 of my dives at the same site, though. In my case it's locale. I don't know a lot of people (yet) willing to dive around here so meeting a few folks at the local quarry is working for now. It's 30 minutes from my house with several dive shops between me and the quarry. Soon I will have more locations on/off my list though, so I'm hoping the quarry doesn't remain my primary diving destination.

Some sites are great for training, and yes, some sites are just that good.

I have done hundreds of dives on the wreck of the steamship, Wisconsin. I keep going back because I still have not seen all of it.

I don't live in that area, but I would think you could find someplace closer to dive. Have you heard about any of the sites mentioned on ShoreDiving.com? One of the lakes looks quite close to your location.

Scuba Shore Diving Site Listing for: Missouri, USA Mid

Sweet site!!!!! Thank you for that link! It looks like there is a site that is about 2 1/2 hours away. The one that would be within 45 min, named Smithville Lake, I can't hardly imagine someone diving there. The review said it had 0-2ft of visibility. I'm thinking I wouldn't be able to see my buddies face diving in that vis???? But, I'm going to check around because if it is doable, I'm going to do it! Thanks a BUNCH!

:rofl3: This is a review of one of the Lakes about 3 hours from me: Diving here sucks
