CrazyC...I spent 3 years at Kadena with the 33rd ARRS, before they were the 17th SOS. I learned to dive there as well. I loved doing Bolo Point from a boat. Is the diving still as good as it was in the early 80's?

Scott,

Unfortunately industrial expansion, urban sprawl, red clay run-off and coral bleaching have had a dramatic effect on the reefs here. It is still wonderful diving, but not the pristine reefs of even the early 90's. Fortunately the Keramas have survived intact for the most part. We got hit hard in 1998 with the bad coral bleaching, water temp soared up to 102 F in some areas and was in the 90's down to 130 feet. No typhoons to drop the temp that year. Over the last few years it started to recover, and then we got hit again in 2001 with warm water temps.

Bolo Point is still a great dive, but the acres of hard corals are a mere fraction of what they were before.

The diving is still as easily accesible and right at most door steps, so how could anyone complain too much! :)

Oh good, then I "ain't" the only old guy. :) I've been diving for about 8 years. Last year I went diving in Nassau with a group. My new dive buddy was 60 and Nitrox certified. He conviced me to get certified. Which I did.

I am going to go on a trip to Cozumel, in March, and try out my new Nitrox certification that I just received. Nitrox is suppose to make it easier on us old guys.

well I served my 11 years in army as special forces medic till I broke my legs on night jump turkey and they put me back together with crap loads of pins and wanted put me on desk job , which wasnt for me, got out now work full time as a paramedic and own small computer store and work that too.

Spent 6 years in the Navy as a Fire Control Technician working on the Talos long range missile system. Served on both the USS Chicago and the Long Beach, both heavy cruisers.

One thing I can say it's a lot more fun cruising the tropics on a cruise ship rather than a heavy cruiser.....

Currently a Junior at West Point. Sapper school again this summer. Hopefully Combat Diver next summer before IOBC and Ranger school. Hopefully 11A and then SF. All depends on my grades.

Many years ago, low grades were a sure route to an infantry commission. Has that changed?
