After an exausting and enjoying experience of doing the open water portion of rescue, I am at a loss of how or if I should log my dives. We were in 6ft waves in Lake Ontario this last weekend 60* water and 50* air tempatures. I had to pull an "unresponsive" diver that was twice my weight all by myself in strong surf. One guy even lost his gear when he took it off to assist someone, he must of thought someone was holding onto it while he was assisting the other diver and forgot to put air into it as well. It was a great course and compared to my other specailties and OW and AOW, I would like to know if I should log my dives. We were doing rescue stuff for around 4 hours, though very little under water. It was the most challanging thing I have yet to do in diving.
In retro spec, I decided if I had to tow someone (unresponsive) like that in those conditions, I would swim out attach a real, swim back and then pull him in. He would have been DoA the way I did it. I kept looking up and seeing a fisherman on this pier seemed not to move at all. I consider myself to be in good shape and even the guy who just did an iron man was exausted. I we ended up calling it before I could get him to shore, since he got sea sick. We redid it on the otherside of the pier where it blocked a lot of the weather and it was a lot easier.
