OK,
I'm curious how prevalent buying and selling scuba gear on eBay is, so lets hear from everyone what your thoughts are on this important topic...

I will spend my money where I get the most bang for my buck. I used to let my LDS know what I was looking for and the price range he would either meet it or I buy elsewhere and it worked out good for both of us. He made more sales to me that I never expected he'd be able to meet me on or close to. Since I have moved away from there, to where I currently live I dont have a LDS to support (closest is 1hr) so all of my purchases have been ebay internet related.

I've bought some things.

Gear like manifolds or regulators that can be torn down and rebuilt is okay for me. I wouldn't buy something like a BC that might have an unfixable hidden flaw.

I've bought & sold lots of gear on eBay. The trick is to do your homework: check out the seller's feedback, comparison shop, etc.
If it dosn't fit or work out for some reason, back on eBay it goes.

I do both. If the item I want is not availible through the
LDS, I'll go to Ebay. I like the variety and price on Ebay, but I
prefer the warranty, service, knowledge, ect at the LDS that
is lacking on Ebay.

That's where it pays to do the homework, there are ebay sellers that provide service, knowledge, warranties, etc that are superior to some dive shops.
If it dosn't fit or work out for some reason, back on eBay it goes.
The better ebay sellers provide a "100% happy" or your $$ back guarantee.

I have purchased on ebay. But for a regulator I went to this forum first and got one. More of a community here.

I picked up a new SP frameless for $26.00. And a couple Mk5/Adjustables w/gauges for about $35.00 each. Another $30.00 worth of parts each for service kits and new 2nd stage spring to convert the Adjustable to a Balanced Adjustable. You get G250 performance with less dry mouth problem. My MK20/G500 is going to sit on the bench for a while.

A knowledgeable diver on e-bay should be able to get a full set of good gear, including neoprene, for well under $500.00. And $250.00 is well within range if you know what you are doing.

I've bought a ton of stuff. The prices are so low that they are giving things away. I've loved all the old gear that I've bought. It was the new latest and greatest Rodale's recommended items that I didn't like and re-sold.

If you ask around, you'll still find a surprising number of people
that don't get on the internet. They don't buy on Ebay, but you
wont see them here because they don't get on Scubaboard either, just a thought, if this pole seems a bit biased.
