I checked the plane ride box but it is usually two or more plane rides.

Minimum 6 hours drive. For holidays only, as even on long weekends we have other obligations (usually basket-ball play for the sons). And only from April to October, when water is more than 11°C as I dive wet.

Depends on where I want to go ... locally it can range from 10 minutes to two hours. Then there's the long week-end trips to Vancouver Island ... often I arrange a "travel day" to get there, and a very long day to get home after a couple early dives.

Let's rephrase the question, shall we.....;) "How desperate are you to go diving?"

If I leave my house to go diving, and do the quickest possible, I can be on board a boat in just a tad over 3h....by TGV (high-speed trains).

However if I go somewhere (which I do quite often for work), I'm usually eagerly trying to piggyback a few dives in wherever I am. Incidentially, I dragged my gear, all inclusive, from Europe to Minneapolis in MARCH, to dive a local mudhole (5C) at night -- I saw exactly one dozy pike....

I live in Kansas. If I want to dive in clear, warm water it is a 2 hour or more flight plus driving to and from the airports. I can dive within 45 minutes of here if I want to wear a full wetsuit, in 5 feet of visibility to look at beer bottles and discarded tires. There is a place within a 3 hour drive from here that has decent visibility, but the lake is spring fed (cold) and the outside temps are not conducive to that dive this time of the year.

Should I include the time it takes to go down to the basement and fetch the gear bag? That would bring it up to a minute or so. Two minutes if I need more gas for the boat.

(Mind you, air fills are a two hour drive away)
