...to get your Divemaster?

Cause it's seems that for it's gonna take longer than I thought just because of the swims. I'm not doing that bad, (near the beach) I do the 800m in 15 mins and the 400m in 10m40sec! But the thing is that I don't swim the crawl nor the breast stroke properly, and since I don't do it with the correct moves they won't validate these swims... I'm "supposed" to take some swim courses in order to be ready for it, so another 2 months????:light: There's NO WAY I'll wait that long... But really don' know what to do! I started the DM almost 2 months ago.....:(

Cheers

Correct, the stamina tests are basically a specific distance with times to give scores (except the tread obviously where you CANT swim).

The 400m you can use any stroke or combination of strokes you want, there are NO marks for technique. All the marks are for completing it within a specific time band.

From the instructor manual:
Stamina Exercise 1: 400 Metre/Yard Swim
The candidate must swim 400 metres/yards without stopping using no
swimming aids and using any stroke or combination of strokes desired.
If a candidate stops, the exercise is incomplete and must be repeated.

There it is, word for word. Any centre telling you anything different is breaking standards. Kindly "inform" them to look up 4-2 of the english language manual

As for me, 6 months and about 250 dives while doing the course. Thats not abnormal for an internship in europe.

Fish_Whisperer:
I didn't know that the swimstrokes were graded. I thought the only requirement for those was Distance/Time. Am I mistaken?

I thought so. But apparently my dive center wants me to do good in those... Not only to finish the distance.... Which is seriously annoying me!!!:light:

250 dives!! Wahou!!! I'm paying EACH dive which are pretty expensive (50€/dive for the DM), I got 10 dives for the DM... If I could dive for free....:(

I'd like to validate the swims somewhere else....

Internship. Get paid nothing, work 14-16hours a day, 7 days a week free for 6 months, get divemaster.

Generally how europe/med dive centres find guides/cheap labour for the summer season.

FWIW i started the course trained by another agency and around 250 dives to my name.

It's definitely a good choice to do it that way!;)
