How long after a Hurricane to dive in good conditions...?

Hello All;

I am in Miami and as you might have heard Ernesto was just here. I d like to dive this Saturday (an easy dive of 30' or so) but I was wondering if the conditions in Miami or Key Largo after this topical storm will be bad.....I am new so I have to ask....How long does it usually take after a hurricane/tropical storm has left until the dive conditions are good?

I dove Key Largo 2 days after Wilma last year and it was wonderful!

I'd wait until the wind slowed down a little then go. Poor conditions for one are great conditions for another. Get on the bottom and do some surge diving, It's fun.

There is really no wayto know for certain.

Go, experience a new condition. That's what gaining experience is all about... that is an advanced diver's building blocks.

The seas off of Key Largo are forcasted to be 2-3 feet out side of the reef 1 foot inside this weekend starting thursday night. So conditions up top should be wonderful, the visibility may still be a little low, or it may be 80 feet, viz is a hard call.

Vis. it's impossible to predict, but the weather conditions are going to be decent down south, a lot better in Ft. Lauderdale.

Eh, it was a mild storm... sort of like our afternoon boomer with a lot less action and mostly rain.. give it a day or two.. you could always snorkel out a little and see what it looks like before commiting to gear up... just remember to take your flag with you, state law says face down in the water is the same as diving.
