So far it hasn't slowed me down. More than likely I will do three trips this year. Bonaire at the end of February, Little Cayman at the beginning of May, and we'll go somewhere in the fall. I'm fortunate that I work for an electric utility and everyone needs electricity but we are looking for ways to save money but no cutbacks in staff are planned.
I guess for those who have secure jobs, the economy isn't all that bad. Many prices are falling and there are some great travel bargins to be had. But I'd rather see everyone with a job and doing well even if it means prices go back up.

On an industry note, I agree prices are great right now. The trend we are seeing here are a HUGE jump in "last minute bookings". Bonaire has historically been a destination that many book 6 months to 1 year out. 30-60 days bookings have jumped an amazing 73%. I sure we can attribute this to the fact that people, in whole are being more conservative with their money and that the airlines are offering amazing last minute pricing.

Hmmm...bought a dry suit. bought a doubles wing and another first stage. Have a two week trip to the Keys in the works for October, not bad!
(although, I still get the "hairy eyeball" from the Mrs. when ever the gear comes in the door)

My wife and I each have solid professional jobs. Our combined incomes have been enough to sustain 3-4 trips per year, plus an occasional additional jaunt, while still providing significant financial support for members of the family no longer at home. One daughter is on the cusp of losing her job, her company filing for chapter 11, so it is unclear what will actually happen. She has been looking for a new job for months with essentially nothing to show for it. We may end up supporting her while she seeks more education. We had planned a nice 40th wedding anniversary June trip to Little Cayman, but last night we axed it because of all the financial uncertainties. We just returned from Bonaire and will not cut our booked trip to Florida in April. Hopefully.

The economy has been a benefit for me. My career is stable and I have been finding incredible deals on vacations.

I went to Fiji in the first week of November '08. My biggest trip yet. But if I had not paid for the trip months before that I don't think I would have gone.
I can't imagine taking a big trip like Fiji in 2009.... but I've GOT to dive. Looks like I'll stay on the CONUSA or maybe a Caribbean trip at the most.

I've been fortunate so far but my company has laid off three quarters of production and salaried workers. No turnaround in site. My wife and I did spring for a Disney Cruise in May since the costs were so low which will give me a dive in Cozumel. Otherwise I'm holding off on scheduling other trips for a while.:mickey:
