How has the economy affected your diving?

i make a coz trip every year with some buddies. it is a guy thing and wives seldom come. this year none of my buds can afford the trip. one is a laid off dhl pilot. that is the bad news.
the good news is that my non diving wife is coming this year and we got a more upscale hotel for the same price as my buddies and i usually pay for more spartan digs. air was also a little less.
now the question is do i dive with the operator i like (aldora) or go for a lower price.

Glad to hear a lot of people don't seem to be hurting too much. For those who are, I can empathize. Me, I'm not feeling as pessimistic as I was, since I've all but finished my taxes and will have a little leftover. So I'm getting the drysuit afterall.

With gas below $2 a gallon I will be diving from my boat a lot more.

I Was debating buying a couple new tanks to round out my gear selection on Thursday, but didn't feel like driving to the shop Thursday night after work, as I had some other hobby things I wanted to work on. Friday, took a 20% pay cut at work.. Changed my mind about buying tanks right away. I think work is going to get a lot busier now, since some people will chose to quit rather than accept the pay cut. The joys of a small company.

Going diving tonight regardless! Although, only in a pool, which has become our Saturday thing to do in the winter to practice while local diving is unavailable. I had a trip booked to Playa Del Carmen for next month with my girlfriend, but heck, work could close it's doors and I still wouldn't cancel that trip. At least we own almost all our own gear, so economic downturn won't hinder local diving too much.

The dismal economy is affecting lots of folks globally. I know of several couples who have cancelled or are contemplating cancelling trips for this year. Uncertainties abound about the economy and what impact it may have on one's livelihood and/or quality of life. Discretionary income is quickly becoming an oxymoron.
As for me, my biggest problem is keeping the beast happy with fuel. On the positive side, I travel with my house, personal dive shop and am usually only steps from some great dive sites.
