Since I expect to be moving somewhere in the not-too-distant future, I'm taking note of places with lots of nearby diving :)

(Of course I still may not end up in a good diving spot, but at least I can weigh the options with that in mind.)

Then I realized that I am not 18 anymore.
I've been telling myself that a lot lately ...

I usually stop just short of the water's edge. Never saw any value in driving much further than that.

... so this wasn't you, then ... ;)

... Bob (Grateful Diver)

My LDS used to be 7 minutes from the house, but they're moving this weekend, and I think it will be more like 20 minutes, and unfortunately, not in the direction of anywhere I dive.

However, I counted one day that there are 6 very reasonable shore diving sites within 30 minutes of my house. If you extend the radius to 2 hours, I can't even count them, and then I can add several VERY nice charter operators, like the one I went out on today.

I'm not quite as lucky as Bob is, but Puget Sound is a very good place to be a diver. And we almost NEVER get blown out!

In Georgia, not the best dive situation. Only 5 minutes to LDS (good one - Divers Supply). However, 1.5 hours to Lake Lanier, 4 hours to florida cave country, 8 hours to southeast Florida ocean.

Why not dive on the coast of GA?

10 min to LDS
3+ hours to Pensacola.

Scuba addiction can have you doing the impossible.

I once drove 1 hour to work, 1 hour home from work, Coached two soccer games, left home at 6:30 and arrived in Gulf shores at 9:30PM, made one night dive, drove three hours back home, slept for two hours and then had to get up and coach two more soccer games. Then I realized that I am not 18 anymore.

You must dive out of Seal sports :)

Our average drive to dive times are around 8 1/2 hours one way, (Marianna, Fl). Sometimes as much as 11-12 (High Springs/Luraville area) and have been as much as 18-22 (Ft. Lauderdale-Keys).

Trips vary from 2-3 days to 5+

I do very little local diving, because for the most part, it sucks!

Our two most often dived sites 50 and 70 minutes from home. Nearest Dive shop 20 minutes. Typical Saturday up at 6:30 at the site by 8am quick chat with buddies and 90 minute dive.. home with gear cleaned and tanks filled by 13:00 depending on how long we visit after the dive and at the Shop.

Dive sites within 90 minutes too many to count. Drives of 6 to 8 hours take us to world class diving. We are very lucky.. great local diving.. awesome diving within reasonable driving distance.

We don't do a lot of boat dives unless we go up the coast towards Queensland.
