Here is how I have done it for many years. I first drilled a hole for a Stainless Steel rigging shackle in the hand tray and then attached a nylon rope lanyard. The lanyard goes to a bolt snap that is attached to the Left chest upper D-ring. The line is long enough so that I can hold it out straight arm. It also allows me to drop the camera at any time where it will end up by my left hip or with a quick flick of my are behind me and under the tank. Try it and you might like it.

Note that I have a line from the wet lens running to the same rigging shackle.

The lanyard works to:
Have the camera handed down to me after I roll off the boat
Clip off the camera on a piece of a wreck or near the anchor or up line if I find the visibility sucks or I need to do something else
To clip off to a line from the boat at the end of the dive to be hauled up while I go up the ladder.
