if there are TWO sharks, then you stab your buddy on the neck and on the knees.

that way, both sharks will have a place to aim for

Don Janni:
The knife is listed for $599.95 at www.waspknife.com. Based on what they say the knife on the web site it must be worth every penny.:D

That is *GREAT*!

That's it... it's on my MUST HAVE list... I can get the Howitzer next year...

Diver Dennis:
I see that Don. Thanks for the link. $600 ????? Did you see the illustration of the diver fighting the shark? Unbelievable....

Yeah..... sort of makes you wonder who the preditor was..... the man or the shark. Pathetic is my word for it.

Let's see.....

1. shark attacks

2. diver drops to one knee while pulling the wasp from it's sheath

3. shark miss calculates the divers agility and quickness and aims too high going over the top of the diver and exposing it's soft underbelly to attack

4. diver has enough thrust behind the razor sharp wasp to stick it a couple of inches into the sharks soft underbelly

5. diver is able to hold the wasp in the sharks body (while the shark meanders by) long enough to discharge the gas

Humm... Do you think the diver obtained those skills in a DIR class? I know it wasn't PADI

BiggDawg:
Protection? From what?
The knife is not to protect you from denizens of the deep :shakehead
It really won't help much against sharks... :jaws:
Cutting instruments, like knives (or better yet, scissors) are for some measure of protection against entanglement. Knives look cool, but are not for fighting (against man, nor beast). James Bond was a joke.

And underwater cattle prods? Oh, please... :1poke:

I wear protection, but it has more to do with exposure or contact with rusted human artifacts, like wrecks. I'll wear gloves. I carry a small knife and ER scissors. I'll wear skins, or rash suit, or other for protection. But I take a buddy along :eyebrow: as protection against "feeling vulnerable." That gives me a 50/50 chance the shark will eat him, instead...:11:

Just remember, you don't have to out swim the shark . . . just your buddy.:babycrawl

I think PADI does have a Shark Defense specialty Don...;)

And before anyone gets upset, I do have PADI AOW....

Diver Dennis:
You should look into one of these compressed gas knives.
This seems to be my day to talk about old Farallon Industries equipment. They made a thing called a Shark Dart back in the early 1970s. It was a big needle that screwed onto a large CO2 cartridge (I found a shot on the web of the small model) and terminated either in a handle or a pole (if the darn photos were working I'd post a picture of the Magnum model). I had occasion to have to use one thirty years ago, and it worked well. As I recall it was a $50.00 back then.

Okay.... I'm PADI AOW myself and it was a poking fun at DIR. Please forgive me.

I have a small knife that I never take off my BC. It is sharp along the edges and has a spot to pull on fishing line to cut it. It has a blunt tip.

My husband (non-diver) insisted I buy "the big boy" which has probably a 4 inch blade. Again, I bought the blunt tip. I suppose if I go on a wreck dive I might consider strapping that bad boy on... but only for the remote possibility that I might get snagged by something on the ship (notice I didn't say IN the ship...). Good for prying and cutting.

I've never actually used the knife attached to my BC, there's only one quarry I've been to that allows fishing.

I chose the blunt tip because I'm less likely to cut myself or my gear with it  !
