Steel backplate with weight pouches on the cambands and a weight belt for diving dry.

Camband weights and steel BP when diving wet with 3 mil suit.

I tried a DUI harness, but I actually prefer a belt because it gets the weight off my shoulders.

Al Mialkovsky:
My wife carries all my weight to the dive site, then I stick it in my BC.

I think Al is hallucinating again.....better keep an eye on him before he gets himself hurt.

I use integrated most times but I use a XS belt sometimes if the conditions call for it.

Dive-aholic:
In doubles, all the weight is in the tanks. Nothing extra needed, even in a dry suit.
No ditchable weight? Is that safe?

I'm not criticizing, just trying to learn. I've seen others mention that they use a SS BP with a weighted STA and tank pockets to have all their weight attached to the BC, and I was wondering if this is considered an okay thing to do.

With any suit other than my 2 mm, ss back plate and belt.

I ate a lot of paint chips as a kid, carry it internally.

I have found that I get a tighter grouping when I use a full metal jacket...

This is the first negative response I have seen to a weight harness. What didn't you like?

A lot of the ones ive tried tend to twist the straps when putting them on. Worse some of them seem to have weights held in via velcro alone which is a very bad idea.

More personally for me i found the pods where the weights load interfere with the pocket on my wing and make it a bit bulky around the side.

Ive got no objection to people using harnesses if they're happy with the twisting and no velcro though just personally i tried them and didnt like it.

Weight integrated however i maintain is an extremely bad idea.

I think so which is why i make sure my belt is underneath both crotch straps on my harness so it cant possibly fall off or slip.

Im of the view that accidentally ditching weights are FAR more dangerous than non ditchable weights for a properly weighted diver.

You can swim up against it if properly weighted, i have a BC, i have a drysuit, i have a DSMB. Buddy also has those.

Thats 6 sources of buoyancy to get me off the bottom. Nothing can help you if you suddenly become 23lbs positive though from a belt falling.

Steel plate and Halcyon ACB's

Hey Terrasmak
Just saw that you use the ACB. I am considering getting one myself and have some questions about it. It would be great if you could answer those :D
Do you like the system? How much weight are you carrying in your pockets? Do you use the large or small pockets (12 vs 20 lb, IIRC)? I have never seen one in person and I am wondering if they take up a lot of space on the harness...

THANK YOU!
