Ah, Saipanman I hope to see that soon! I did my IDC wet in 38deg. water. Way too cold. Last summer I did two boat dives at Tobermory wet only because my wife didn't have her drysuit yet. 46deg. and I (we) froze. The next dive was a shore dive in the low 50's and while diving dry (so much for chivalry) I saw a guy below me in a shorty! No lie, must have been Canadian.

When it's cold, I throw on the .5mil shorty. Usually, just my swimsuit and a rashguard. (and the natural insulation I drank in college...)

There are exceptions but as a rule... if I need a suit...it's a dry suit. A shell suit doesn't provide any insulation to speak of so by adjusting the amount of insulation I'm comfortable in any temp water and always more comfortable when I get out.

Using a dry suit also eliminates the buoyancy shift with depth inherant to a wet suit (especially a heavy wet suit).

Which is the BEST argument for going dry I've seen!!

gonna rig up a pee valve in your dry suit when you get one? :eyebrow:

Well that Depends on whether or not you'd be diving with me......

Coldest I have been in is about 38-39°. That was in a 2 piece 7mm. Did it again two weeks ago in the new dry suit. Worlds apart :)

I have been wondering about whether to keep or sell the 7mm. After reading Mike's post. I'm selling it!

45F in lake superior, it was cold. We are going again this weekend, but i'll be trying out my new d.u.i. 450, I should be just a little warmer, but I'm nervous about the temp. I think if I can do it wet, dry should be no problem!!
Just an update; it's just as cold in a WET drysuit!!! had my neck seal rolled up, or my dump valve was open too far, the second dive was dry and warm, anyone need an akona xxxl new with tags??? 7-mil one piece??? (I won't look back) :eyebrow:
