No damn wonder you needed glasses with all that "off gassing" in your mask!
But on a more serious note, I believe its not an issue during the dive because I spit in my mask to avoid fogging and then rinse it.
As all divers know, saliva acts as a surfactant ie a wetting agent that lowers the surface tension of a liquid, so the silicone actually stays wet during the dive and any acetic acid coming out of the silicone is probably diluted into this film rather than vaporizing out into the air pocket.
When I tried a recently glued mask dry I could smell the silicone. Spit & rinsed, never.
