I would appreciate a comparison between Hotel Cozumel and Park Royale. I have not stayed at either, normally stay at Fiesta Americana or Casa Mexicana so comparisons to those would be especially helpful.

I am interested in: quality of the facility/rooms/grounds, beach/pool situation, quality of AI food and quality of staff.

Thanks,

Rich Hagelin

Hi Rich-I stay at the Park Royal when I go to Coz. I have no complaints for the stay. For my wife and I it does the job nicely. The food was great. The rooms are spotless as are the grounds. The beach is not huge by any means. Nice to snorkel. The only complaint I have is the access to wireless. You only can get it under the big palapa. Also there was only one plug in for battery recharge.
The people there are very courteous. I tipped the maid daily and always got something nice left behind in towel creatures and extra bottled water. Try and get a room above the fifth floor for view. Take some rope to hang gear on the balcony, I took about twelve feet of quarter inch nlyon.
This is not the so called diver friendly hotel. But as an AI for the price it's hard to beat. I dive at Scubamau and they are just down the street at Villa Blanca, a 10 minute walk.
A cab ride to town is 80 pesos.
Well maybe one more complaint. There a no coffee machines in the rooms or little fridges.
I'll be back in July. kev

Hi Kev,

What did you think of Scuba Mau? We will be staying at Hotel Cozumel in August and they are on our short list of dive ops.

Hi Kev,

What did you think of Scuba Mau? We will be staying at Hotel Cozumel in August and they are on our short list of dive ops.

Opal and Mau have an amazing crew. They are as genuine as people can get. I like the friendly atmosphere, it makes the day that much more fun. The dms are some of the best of the island. The boats are six packs with fruit and water for the SI. Dive your gas, no rush. If you get Gabi he likes it if you can stay down as long as him. Sometimes he just got too cold and came up with the last of the divers and I would stay down. For a lot of my dives I was diving with Denise. Her and I went deco nearly every dive. Denise lives on the island and does not work for them, she has become a great dive buddy. I love diving with her. I'm sure you will share a dive together, if you see her please say hi for me.lol.
Also diving with them you get unlimited shore dives. The night dives are fabulous off the pier at Villa Blanca. They have a scooter to rent for cruising the reef out front, thats a blast. As with most operators Opal can give you amazing info for island to do things if you are not familiar. This company is very social so expect to have fiesta at least once if you like to have fun.
I have used several ops and for the most part I would not have a problem going back out with them. There is something special to me about this shop that I dont need to go anywhere else. I hope your abventure on Coz is too good. kev

I wrote this after my last trip, and I have a full review from my first 2 stays there on the Tripadvisor Hotel Reviews section.

And although it's not the best hotel or resort I've stayed at on the island I do feel it's worth the cost, and I really like being able to walk everywhere I want to go using it as my base. I walk into town & all the way out to the International pier area regularly. I even walked down to the Park Royal 2 trips ago & snorkeled my way back, to see just how much damage Wilma had done.

A couple friends of ours stayed at the Park Royal a couple of years ago. The property has been renovated nicely, the room was nice, pretty much a typical hotel room, but no fridge in room or any ice machines on the floors to keep beverages cool if you did have a cooler of your own.

And if you wanted a cold water to take to the room or the pool, they would only give you a styrofoam cup of ice water rather than a bottle of water, making it very hard to stay hydrated in the hot sun without spending all your time running back and forth to the bar or constantly flagging down a wait person.

Our friends said the food was good, but not as good as when we all stayed at the Occidental Grand and service was quite slow. They had diner at the "fancy" restaurant and it took well over an hour to get thier meals.

Hotel Coz. is closer to town, easy walking distance, although walking from Park Royal would not be beyond us, we used to walk to and from town all the time when we stayed at La Ceiba.

I've never seen the rooms at H.C., but the balconies look adequate for scuba gear, the pool and lobby areas are very nice, and reports I've heard is the food is good.

we like Hotel Cozumel because: good value, 1 mile from town, nice pier with restaurant for pick up and drop off, big big pool, nice rooms, food ok, lockers on pier.
