I would never do a big 36" loop over my shoulder, that's way too much of a hose loop for me. I could see under the arm with a 90 degree fitting, maybe.

To Jax, are you saying that a 5 ft hose, routed under your right arm, across your chest, over your left shoulder, behind your head, and around to the right of your mouth still has to be tucked in a waist band? I find that almost impossible to believe, unless you're exceptionally tiny. I'm 5'7", 160, and the 5 ft hose is a little too short on a single tank; perfect on doubles when it's coming from the right post. That's coming straight across my chest, all 40" of it, nowhere near the waist band.

..snip.... I'm 5'7", 160, and the 5 ft hose is a little too short on a single tank.....

Almost the same, except 5'8" and a bit (195 lbs) more bulbous. I too find a regular 5' hose a little short, but I have not tried a Miflex.

I'm looking to replace my primary reg hose. I was leaning toward a miflex hose. My question is what length do you use and how do you route it? I guess that's two questions.

My plan is to move up to a BP/W set-up, but till then I'll be in a BCJ. No plans on cave diving, but I am interested in wrecks.

My problem with the 30" hose that I currently have is "pulling", which is why I was gonna try a miflex hose and seacure mouthpiece. I am just wondering about length and routing. My current set-up just comes over my shoulder to my mouth.

I've read other threads, but they seem to mainly discuss the difference between %' and 7' hoses.

Thanks in advance for any input or opinions,

Sounds to me like you just need a longer hose on your primary regulator. Try purchasing a 32-36" low pressure regulator hose. Go with the miflex if you want, but the length sounds to be more of an issue than the hose type.

Try Dive Gear Express | Equipment for Experienced Divers they have all kinds of hose types and lengths and they are great at returns if they don't work out for you. Hope this helps.

Take a look at user Splitlip in the previous link provided.

For an average size male 5'11" 185lbs. The 40" underarm versus a 36" over shoulder is not much difference. I have large shoulders from swimming. Size 50 coat size. Spltlip has what looks like a 26" bungied secondary.

My applications is for hunting in kelp forests, being able to donate my primary, and it is comfortable for me.

I tried different lengths and this what work the best for me. I think there may be a way to try different hose sizes to see which fits best and the routing optimize for oneself.

I'm a "rather large fellow", big chest, just a hair under 6'5" and 260 lbs. I use a 5' Miflex on my single tank, and while it is a bit "shortish", it works "ok" because of the ability to make tight bends.... as others have posted, it is pulled pretty tight across my chest, but not uncomfortably, and "pull" on the reg is minimal.... but it would be perfect if it were maybe 4" longer.

Best wishes.

I explain that the primary is the one I am donating, so it would be correct for them to take it out of my mouth if need be.

I have not had any problems in kelp with the 36" over shoulder primary.

User SplitLip posted a picture of a 40" under arm primary in use.
Underarm routing

I have shared my 40" Octo in kelp with no problems. I can practice it with my 36" primary and see how it works while swimming together. It is a side exhaust.

Gotcha. I'll be heading to my LDS to give a couple different lengths a try. Thanks
