I was with Horizon a few days ago and during my dive someone on another boat got hooked in the hand while deep by a fishing boat moored on another ball. Apparently adult language was used upon surfacing, a DM hopped in to cut the line, and the whole boat missed their 2nd tank. Boat was gone by time I surfaced and I missed the drama. Anyone here witness that?

a fishing boat moored on another ball.
What dive site were you at with 3 mooring balls ?
Fishing isn't allowed in Sanctuary preservation areas (SPA) within Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary. Not all moorings are in SPA's but most are.

I figured. There were several sharing space with us. Never heard of someone actually hooked though until then. Was Sunday I think.

The money generated and taxes paid by the sportfishing industry dwarf what SCUBA diving contributes to the economy. If the fishing boat was there first and already engaged in fishing, then a dive boat pulling up and dropping divers is not only rude, but it could be considered harrassment...
FL Statute 379.105 Harassment of hunters, trappers, or fishers

I’m wondering how the dude was, and what it was like to ascend while hooked. I’m not questioning who had dibs on the ship, and have no idea who was there first. Only wondering if anyone from that dive boat that witnessed it happens to be here on SB.

As a RR captain, I heard no chatter on our end of any customers being hooked. The only other Newton I'm aware of that frequents the Spiegel is from Conch Republic Dive Center, so it could have been one of theirs?
