I need help w/ my homework from scuba class. how do you store a BC? I'm pretty sure you dont store it with water in the bladder part. but do you partially inflate it or deflate it to store it? i cannot find it in this chapter. it talks about rinsing it and checking for leaks but not storing it...

and also this question kind of confuses me. What are the two most commom types of octopus regs on the market: downstream valve, and upstream valve. right-handed reg, and bi-directional reg. extra second stage and a bc inflator integrated second stage. or a pony bottle and spare air.
i chose "an extra second stage, and a bc integrated. i dont know what a down and upstream vavle is. i kind of thing that maybe the one i chose is standared equipment and that maybe the answer is right handed and bi-directional regs, because those are TYPES...

thanks! i'm trying to convince my friend sitting next to me that i am not cheating, i am getting help! i'll check w/ my instructor later about my questions too...thanks again!

Store you BC partially inflated on a thick hanger (wetsuit hanger) or a BC hanger. The BC hangers usually have some hooks that latch the shoulder straps so that the BC doesn't come off. DO NOT store it with water in it. The idea of putting water into the bladder is to clean the interior of the bladder. If not you can get some creeping crud inside of it. Leaving the water inside the bladder would cause some serious molding.

You're correct on the question about the octo. It's either another 2nd stage that is routed under your right arm and located in the triangle that your chin and rib cage makes (it's located in other places for tech and DIR guys, but for the basic OW course it's in the triangle) or it's integrated into your BC's power inflator (often called an Air2) coming off your left shoulder.

If you have a spare 2nd stage you give your buddy the extra 2nd stage and you keep your primary. If you have an Air2, you give your primary 2nd stage to your buddy and you switch to the Air2.

I wouldn't worry about the cheating thing - you're simply asking clarifying questions. It's not like you're taking your final knowledge review before you do the check out dives. Most instructors that I have seen review these quizzes in the class and ask if anyone had questions about them.

I notice you live in 'Central Indiana.' I live in Indy - when you get your cert done shoot me a PM and we'll go get wet together.

I'm not experienced with what anything but PADI requires, but can point you in the right direciton.

You store a BCD partially inflated. I'm sure that is in the book if they ask the question. As I answered you first question, I'll give you a second, WHY do you store it that way? Understanding the reason is better than just knowing the anwer without understanding why.

For the second question, they are throwing in some terms that may not apply to the quesion, and asking what is the most COMMON.

So rather than just tell you, I'll do what I do with my son and say look at your book on the alt air sources section, and you should find the answer.

Yes, check with the instructor rather than just asking for the answers as I'm SURE they are in the book.
