you'd think you were developing a complex or something....

in civilized SB form, here's my response:

I saw mention of the Bertuzzi incident. OK, ask why Claude Lemeiux's name is allowed to be on the cup after Kris Draper spent two months with his jaw wired shut.

The only good thing about that incident is that the Wings finally traded little pests for BIG pests like Shanny, Holmstrom, Chelios, and Derian Hatcher. That philosphy seems to have worked for them ever since.

I agree that the playoffs are called more loosely, or not at all. Fine! At least both teams have to play by the same rules. And fights aren't why I watch hockey. I like to see aggressive play that forces good goals.

PS With the quality of most NHL goalies in the playoffs, I would prefer a power play to a penalty shot. Most of those goalies can spot it if they can see it and know that you have to shoot it (not have a guy at an angle who may one time it off the pass.

Dino Cicerelli's comments after shaking Claude Lemieux's hand after the game were absolutely classic!! LOL

You could say that about every sport. And it would be a generalization. For the most part, the refs do a great job. Remember, most of the calls are subjective, as it should be. Otherwise you would have a game that either 1. was completely boring, or 2. was completely ineffective with penalties every 2 minutes.
I disagree. You then have a game where speed is rewarded becasue slow players can't resort to hooking and holding to negate speed, and defenders can't resort to repeated cross-checking to move an offensive guy out of the slot.
Wrong. His actions, if you actually looked at it, were far more agressive and offensive than what you usually see in ANY NHL game. He sucker punched the guy from behind, THEN jumped on his back. Contrary to your statement, that does not happen often during the season (in fact, it's quite rare). Do other ugly things go on? Of course, it's the nature of the sport.
See above concerning front of goal antics. Watch how hard the sticks are driven into backs (and backs of necks) and how defenders then jump on the player they have just cross-checked. See open ice cross checks to the jaw also.
The Olympics are not a relevent comparison. Different rules, different agendas.
You are absolutely right here. The olympics are about athletics, integrity, and sportsmanship. Completely different. I cannot stress enough the entirely different attitude.
In any case, it sure doesn't seem to affect attendance at any of the games that I've been to.
Once again, you are absolutely right. :salute:

I am not familiar with it. I wonder if Claude Lemieux would be a good hockey player. Too bad no one will ever know. He is the epitome of the NHL player.

I was refering to the calls throughout the whole season in general not just the playoffs.

Go Lightning!!
Hopfully the Lightning-Wings game a month ago was a preview to the Stanley Cup. With the Lightning winning it of course :eyebrow: .
Paul
:11: You mean they actually named a cup after a guy named Stanley? Huh.. huh..huh..

"I can't believe I shook his (expletive) hand! That (double expletive) me off!!"

I kept it clean, all right?

H2Andy:
all i have to say, as a Buffalo Sabres fan, is this:

NO GOAL

LOL!!!

I thought Hull's goal was beautiful. BUT, by the rules of the day it should not have counted.

In a similar change of rules midway through a game, in 1993 in the conference finals game 7, Toronto vs. L.A., Gretzky high sticked Gilmour (correct player?) and received a 2 minute minor. By the rules of the day Gretzky should have been kicked out of the game, he wasn't and L.A. won and then played in the Stanley cup finals.

In 1989 Peplinski, playing for Calgary, kicked the puck in the net against Vancouver in overtime in game 7, round one. By the rules of the day it should not have counted, but it did and Calgary eventually went on to win the Stanley cup.

In each case the rules were not followed to the detriment of one team and the victory of another. And these are just a few examples.

In the last few years I thought the refs did an absolutely horrendous job, especially in the playoffs. This year I thought they called an excellent series with Vancouver and Calgary and only made a few bad mistakes. Unfortunately the wrong team won.

Cheers,
Bill.
