I will miss him :( He was smart too, I had him for two years. Their life expectancy is 12 years so he died young :(

Axolotls are a type of salamander.

are those gills around the head?! never seen such a thing before!! what does it eat?

Yes they are the gills. They eat pretty much anything you put in their tank. I feed him salmon pellets and sea monkeys. You can feed them earthworms, grasshoppers, bloodworms, fish, and tonnes of other things though.

They are also called 'Mexican walking fish' (though they are not fish), maybe you have heard of them?

first for me; so it is not amphibian? or does it has lungs+gills?

It's an amphibian but one that fails to undergo metamorphosis so they stay juvenile. Occasionally they do mature and then they are pretty much like a tiger salamander. They have lungs too so when they need more oxygen they will gulp at the surface. Really interesting animal, they regrow their legs and organs if damaged!

Well my brother and girlfriend are over for a visit now so I better go pay them attention :) Thanks for the nice messages about Maxolotl :)

Tunia and Fish,

I am surprised you haven't dove the Yongala:confused:

Maybe we will have to meet you there the next time we come over:D

Night petunia. I got out for three dives today and was really cold even though it was pretty much the same temperature as before I left for Fish Rock. I guess diving in a few degrees warmer for a week has made me weak.

I just got home to some sad sad news. My lovely axolotl Maxolotl has died :( When I came back from holiday he was quite sick and he died sometime today. So upsetting :( :( I don't know why he got sick! My friend said he was fine all week when she was looking after him. :depressed::depressed:

oh Sas I am sorry to hear that. I know how much you loved Max and he was so cute. :consolation:

yep it is easy to get spoiled with a little warm water isn't it?

Good morning Hijackers :)
