I would love the partsliost and "corrected" drawings.

I have been wanting to build a canniater light for some time now and just have not gotten around to it.

Thanks.

Excellent job Daveg1!

What is the actual dimension of that battery pack?

I'm trying to see if I can upgrade my battery pack to the one your have, using my existing can.

Thanks in advance

I know my can has a 3 in ID tube. I have tried a 3 inch OD tube with a 1/8 wall and it did not fit, but not by much. I think my can is about 11 inches long but I will have to measure it.

I finally remembered to measure the pack, its 8 1/2 long. I would figure 8 3/4 though to give your self some room for the wires.

Daveg1,

Awesome job.

I am going to try and machine the head this weekend and see if I can follow this.

Great job and thanks so much.

I will let you know how it turns out.

I have been thinking of upgrading my current homemade halogen light to a 21 watt HID. I am thinking of putting the ballast into the cannister so that I can use the same light head (slug/test tube style). Has anyone ever done this?

Nice design....I have been toying with the idea as well but not sure where to start. Now you mentioned that this will be a HID light - correct? What sort of bulb, ballast and igniter are you using?

Also, if you could also send over those modified design and parts list I would greatly appreciate it.

Here's my drawing for an MR11 HID light head.
It uses the Welsh Allen MR11 HID lamp and Ballast.
Eventually it will be powered by 10 NiMH C cells. (4.5 Ahr)

Right now it will be powered by 3x 6 volt 7.5 Ahr lead acid batteriesin series. At first glance this would be bad.
The high voltage will cook the ballast!
I have copensated for this with a voltage regulator circuit, that will supply a steady 12 volts @ 1 Amp to the ballast, until the battery drops below 13 vdc.

I'll post the voltage regulator in a separate post.
