Hola Tammy,

If you want a dive operater that will go nice and slow since your new to diving, Try www.bottomtimedivers.net. Raul is the type of divemaster that takes it slow and can find all the small and large critters on the reef. Remember the slower you go the better chance of not spooking the wild life and the closer you likely will get to them! I was just there 2-6 to 2-11 and we had a eagle ray swim all around us as well as turtles coming right up to us. BUT DO NOT TRY TO TOUCH it will make them shy away from you and also future divers. Have fun
Lou

we went to XEL-HA one time, the snorkeling was terrable!!!!!!!!!!! you couldn't see 5' infront of your face! maybe just a bad day, but haven't bothered going back. also because it was a 'bio-reserve' they wouldn't let us use regular suntan lotion, you had to buy their "envormentally safe" lotion or preferably go with out, yeah right, no sun protection in Mexico?!! I've heard that Xcaret is a much better place to go but haven't been there myself. We've been a little gun shy after our Xel-Ha experience.
As new divers, I'd advise to stay on Coz the diving there is incredible there really is no need to go across the bay to dive. if the snorkelers want a fun day trip go out with the Fury, it can be crowded, but they will be able to get out on the reef and not just shore dive. I think some dive ops will also take snorkelers along with the dive trips.
If you want to do something different for a day trip to the Yucatan, take the ferry to Playa del Carmon and rent a jeep and drive down to Tulum, you can also sign up for a bus tour out of Playa, check with your hotel, or if your flying on FunJet or another charter you'll have a Lomas representative at the hotel that can hook you up.

welcome to the board and the wonderful underwater world!!

How do you get down South, taxi, bus or rent a car? We arrive in COZ 1 week from today. We are taking one day off diving and heading to PDC.

Where are you starting from. If you're in the airport and going to your hotel, you have to take the transportation provided by your deal/package. No taxis. If you want to explore, rent a jeep and enjoy. I highly recommend renting a jeep and going to the other side of the island at least once.
