Hello! I just got certified-and am planning a trip with my dive buddy to Deerfield Beach- mid September. Any advice/tips?

We picked Deerfield because of the shore diving and seeming low-key-ness. I'm nervous, tho' about the currents and the crowds of beach goers. We also haven't decided on a dive shop.

HI Cuttlefish:
Welcome to scubaboard. Deerfield can have currents. You're sure right about that. I had a trip there and I wasn't able to dive because of how rough it was. Several people were bruised after they did dive that week.
Please be safe and be sure the DM and captain of your boat agree that it's OK for you to dive before you do, while you are there.

Sorry, don't know anything about Deerfield Beach since I'm on the other coast. Wanted to welcome you. Like Natasha said, get as much info as you can and make sure they are aware you are new. Check in with the Florida Conch Divers Forum.

Welcome Aboard!!!

It's addictive, but who cares?!?!?

Good friends and good info. What could be better???

P.S. - If you have not already done so, please fill out your profile.

Try West Palm Beach or Fort Lauderdale. FL has better beach diving.

Welcome to the board. We've got lots of trip reports for most sites you'll want to dive in. Look around.

Welcome to ScubaBoard!

Congratulations on your new certification!

Dive safe!

Welcome to the Board! Make sure to post your trip dates in the Florida Conch Divers forum before you come down, you'll have a slew of new buddies!

Howdy!

Welcome to SB!!
:happywave Put us in your computer's favorites and check in often. This is a great place to learn, compare, argue :argue: Look around our various forums - everything from New-To-Scuba to Instructors-Only to Dive Medicine.

When I was new, I went to Key Largo and dived off a boat that catered to newbies, with a Dive Master in the water on all dives, crew to help me out, etc. and - that's exactly what I like to suggested to other newbies.

If you're going to do beach dives, hire a Dive Master to go with you on the first dozen or so. Costs money, saves lives. There's a lot of to learn about shore waters off of Florida. They lose several waders every year to rip currents, even on lady who was walking just near the water last March when I was there.

Are you doing shore dives? If not, then shoobies shouldn't be a problem.

In any case, welcome to ScubaBoard!! I'm sure you will have no trouble finding someone who can help you make a decision. Good luck. Safe Diving!

Cheers,
Jess
