Help..i'm about 99.9% sold on scubapro regs. but i dont know which one to get.i tried the g250 and liked it alot.my lds keeps trying to sell me the 600.so what do i do?this is my first piece of equipment
and i have a limited budget.so is there a major diff. between 600,250,or even the 550.
Thanks,
Don

There are a lot of good regs out there besides Scubapro. My advice to you would be to tell your LDS that before you make a purchase, you would like to "try out" a few regs in REAL conditions (NOT in a pool) and then make up your mind. While you are doing that, also consider other brands - For example, Apeks has a huge following on this board, and for good reason.

;you shouldn't have any trouble with either reg but the 250 is heavier (I use one myself) it is a top line all condition reg if you get the right first stage which you did not state (I am partial to the mk25).

I can not say anything against or for the Apex as there is none in my area but again there are alot of very happy people here with theirs. If you check E-Bay you will find a very large amount of Mares/Dacor regs for sale it would seem to me that they are not as popular after being purchased.

good luck good diving

They are both excellent systems. But , from a practical breathing standpoint, you would have a hard time distinguishing between any of the high performance regs including the G250, Apeks, and many others. So it probably should boil down to price and availability of service. If price is really a major consern, the Mk25/S600 is available from diveinn.com (in Spain) for $340.00 plus shipping. But you may risk being blackballed from your LDS.

I have the Mk16/G250HP and like it a lot. I might upgrade the first stage someday, but I don't find it necessary right now. You probably don't need the 600, it's a sweet 2nd stage but if money is an issue the 250 will do awesome!

Excellent advice all around. The S600 is a miniature version of the G250HP. The MK 16 is a good unit as is the MK25 but different technology. Not important to a Texas diver, but the piston MK25 might give some problems under the ice, otherwise bulletproof.

The Oceanic line has some excellent miniature regs including the CDX/Delta 3. Apeks DST/TX50 is equivalent to the MK16/G250 combo except the SP reg does not have a turret(swivel). The ATX series is similar to SP S600, etc.

All above 2nd stgs are adjustable. The S550 is non adjustable. Matter of preference and economics.

thanks alot...i think im going to go with the mk25/g250hp. it's going to set me back about 500.00 down here in corpus christi but i think it will be worth it in the long run.
Whats the deal with apeks on this board?
it seems like everytime someone asks a question someone says getta apeks.
i just found out that the lds i've been going to is a dealer for apeks and i diddnt even know it(found it by dealer locator at apeks web site)so maybe.....:)

I can't answer about the differences in the regs but I can say that I have and love my mk20/s600.

i was buying a reg as well and considered mk25/s600 vs atx50/atx40 octo. i decided to go with the apeks after many on this board recommended. the price was an issue for me as well. don't forget, with mk25/s600, you still need an octopus.

Lots of good advice here. If it was me and I was going with SP I personally would go with the G250HP.
