Help!!! with my new Suunto Vyper

are under the gauge protector, which you can pop off, that's normal. You shouldn't need to remove the battery. Was it displaying dive time, or surface interval? Your manual will cover changing from imperial to metric, as well as changing the battery, you should read it, there is a lot of info to be learned.
 
My Vyper has a protective plastic face: Water gets under it between dives but its fine underwater.

The Manual explains this, and it shows how to remove the cover and the battery. It also explians how computer works, which should cover your remaining questions.

You should really understand what the manaul says before trying to dive the computer, and which sets of numbers mean what.
