Need info:

First of all, thank you for the poll on the best dive spots - great help there.

Now I need the following:

1. Recommendations on a nice small place, comfortable for a family of 4 (I have booked Days Inn for $33USD/day)

2. Also looking for a great dive shop (not Buena Ventura - they are booked)

Thank you.

I dont if anyone else has any thoughts, but I used Sand Dollar Sports back in March down in Cozumel and they were an awesome setup. Very helpful with loading gear, excellent dive sites, and an awesome staff. I took a cruise down there so I do not know anything about housing.

Hope this helps

Hi,

First of all, I want to thank everyone for their helpful comments however I am looking for something that is more reasonable - something comparable to the Hotel Lorena, et al -

I have booked the Days Inn at $33/night so maybe that is the best there is.

But if anyone has a jewel in the rough - would be appreciated.

Cheers,
Curtis:confused:

FWIW, the Lorena is right next door to Blue Angel. It's got mixed reviews, but I've been told that the owner of Blue Angel has arranged to purchase the Lorena. If this is is true, I have no doubt it will improve things around there. Alejandra, the owner of Blue Angel, seems like a good business woman. You might drop them a line and see if they have any package deals.

Also, just down the street from the Lorena is Hotel Villa Blanca. Some people we dove with were staying there, and paying about $60/night, a rate they got through Blue Angel. It looked ok, and they seemed happy with it. I've never stayed at either place, but recently spent the week diving with BA, and so was right next to the Lorena pretty much everyday. HTH.

FWIW, when I was staying at Lorena a couple of weeks ago I was told that the deal with Alejandra fell through, and that Arlene (the sole US owner; Lorraine is out of the picture now) was talking to the original owners (Javier and Emma Segura) about their buying it back.

I've been staying there since the early 80's, BTW. No mixed reviews from me; I love it.. Whatever happens, I hope it doesn't change the place, except they can take the TV's back out of the rooms.

Yeah, that's what I heard when we were there a couple of weeks ago as well(May15-22), that the deal wasn't gonna happen. Since I've been back, I heard that the deal was back on again... Who knows? :)

Hello Timothy
Thanks for your recommendation to Casa Tina
Tina and I are glad you enjoy our house.
I was curious do you ever go diving around New York?
Tina and I do a lot of shore diving in Rockaway. Well not lately with the weather the vis. is not that great.
Anyway I just came across your post and wanted to say Hi.
Maybe we will get a chance to meet one day.

We are going back to cozumel in August. We love it there and hope to be moving there full time. That is why we built Casa Tina.
Take care
Ron M

Hey Ron. I don't do any diving up here. I still think that a villa rental is the best way to do Cozumel. We enjoyed Casa Tina very much. I'll look you up when we get back to Cozumel!
