Warmwater Wank:
I have one word for you Jody. Bonaire.

Well ok, a few more words too: "Rainy season" is not in their vocabulary and you can find very cost effective stay, drive & dive packages. Check the ABC Island sub-forum under Greater Caribbean etc>Lesser Antilles for tons of Bonaire posts. Great diving and low stress levels. // ww

EXACTLY what my first thought was a well!

I was on Roatan at West End in late July last year for 2 weeks (and a few other times before and since) . Weather was really pretty decent, not much rain last year (and then just some showers, usually at night). A bit towards warm & humid but not a big deal at all, nice breezes, water temps around 82-83F. Roatan has lots to offer for accommodations & price ranges, good variety of reasonable restaurants, and good diving there. Nice reef variety, great small stuff, still a laid back place. (For now.) The island has been covered (a time or 2...:eyebrow: ) by Roatan Man and others, plenty of info on SB w/ a quick search. // ww

JodyLynn:
Thanks so much for the replies! You know, I have been to Hawaii 3 times (as a non-diver) and frankly it does not float my boat. Ditto with Florida. I want to be OUT of this country. I was just checking out Roatan, Honduras and it looks like a popular spot with good off shore snorkeling for my boyfriend and not too terribly expensive. What do you guys think about that choice?

A friend of mine went diving in Roatan and loved it.

JodyLynn:
Coco View is exactly the place I was checking out--thanks!

Check out Bay Island Beach Resort, Inn of Last Resort, or Anthony's Key Resort, all on the north side & better diving(there to West End)........Also, plan a day trip to dive Barberetta & Pigeon Caye, great diving there(also)......

Go to Cozumel if you haven't been before. Exellent hotels and food, great dive spots, divers everywhere. Easy to get to from Cali - one change of plane...

There is a couple of small Island in the western Caribbean, that have not really been discovered yet by American divers, that is a wonderful place. Depending on what you like would be which Island I would recommend.
San Andres is a resort island with around 100,000 people and all the amenities, 5 star hotels, casino, crowded beaches, and great diving, some snorkeling. Great Island, great people and fairly in expensive.
Old Providence is a smaller mountainous island with 5000 people no five star resorts, small family owned bed and breakfast type resorts and restaurants, deserted beaches, most of the island that is not developed is a dry tropical rain forest, diving is some of the best in the Caribbean with the worlds 3rd largest reef, plenty of snorkeling. Service is friendly and crime is basically nonexistent and prices are also inexpensive. You will have an extra expense for the island hopper to get to OP.
With 3+ weeks you could do both islands.
Contact me if you need any help.

You have a nice budget...

Last years I was at San Andres.. really an amazing place. LOVED IT! it's like a little secret. With only 15% of the tourist coming outside of Columbia, this place is a real exotic destination. not so much to do on the island, but the paradise is under the water

you can see my pics:

and I strongly recommend Karibik Diving. The owner Werner is really a nice guy and know the place so well!

ho and by the way, our last trip there has cost 3200$ can for 2 person with all include (flight, hotel, food, drink, tax) and 400$ each for diving (with my certification)

Hi Cris
Great pics......
Glad to hear you enjoyed SAI. Old Providence is even more beautiful under water but with even less to do above water.
I also know Werner, great opperation, but I dive with a friend in who has a boat when on SAI.
Part of the reason I have been so interested in SAI and Old Providence is because of the prices, some of the best in the Caribe.
If you ever find yourself going back to SAI or wanting to go to Old Providence let me know.
Ciao
Tad
