I have used both, like them both equally. The Sherwood is a little more rugged. The TUSA is a classic design that has been used with modifications for many years. Get whichever you like and take care of it.
As noted above anyone saying they would never let anyone dive with a TUSA is doing themselves a great disservice and are just plain ignorant. We used environmental sealed TUSAs in the Antarctic with no problems at all.

I can pretty much say you would find it hard to tell the differance breathing wise between either of them. If you were blindfolded and puffed on either at 20 metres, I can pretty much say it would be pure luck if you identified either by their performance alone.

Sherwoods parts are cheaper and one kit fits all models (unlike TUSA) so they are certainly quicker and easy to repair, plus they have good service availability in most areas and even internationally they have a good dealer network.

However, thats not to say TUSA dosnt, they do, and in some parts of the world are better represented than Sherwood,............... its all pretty subjective and dependant on where you are likely to travel.

However,as you will most likely prefer to service and repair the regulator at your local LDS anyway, I cant see this been a major dealer breaker, just forget the brands, try them out if possible and pick the one that feels right for you.

At the end of the day, you will be the one diving with it.!

I will never give another penny to Sherwood. I had enough problems with the service to make me stay far away from them and tell others also.

Guess my choice would be the Tusa...that said, I have a bunch of Aqualungs that treat me right.

Good luck,
U/O

I dive a Zeagle. I work at a dive shop service center that is a TUSA and Sherwood dealer. Both are good regs. For that matter, you can't buy a bad reg if you stick with the name brands. I have limited or no experience with so-called "generic" regs, so I cannot comment on them.

Having said all that, I would put Sherwood up against anybody else's reg when it comes to simplicity and reliability. They are bulletproof! Easily the most corroded reg I've ever serviced was an older Oasis, and it still worked just fine. I had no idea the first stage had the serious internal corrosion that it had until I tore it apart. It was horrible inside!

A day or so later, after some serious cleaning and a new piston, the reg works perfectly.

I hear you and I know what you are saying, but dont you think thats very subjective, I could say the same about Mares, and "Joe" could say the same about Aqualung etc, -depends on your field of experience.

Lets be honest, there should have been no water in there in the first place, so either the bleed or flow control (or both) failed ?? in the Sherwood to allow water into the piston chamber anyway.

I personally think the Sherwood system is "old school" it works and its tried and trusted, but....................................hmmmm, Sherwood is the only one using it,............... none of the other major brands have bothered to make a similar system, .......its cheap and simple so why not ?.......................Hmmmmmm, maybe theres something to that as well, balancing issues for one.!

Not running Sherwood down, I have a few myself, but I definatly think they are very overrated, anyhow, I still think theres so little to choose between the two regs it boils down to your own personal choice.
