I am having a minor dilemma that hopefully some fellow boarders can help me with.

My dive buddy (Kath) who has been my g/f for the past 10+ yrs and I have decided we are going to get married. Originally we thought about just going to Vegas but then I got to thinking (very dangerous) that it would be neat to do the underwater wedding thing. So, this is my dilemma. In searching the web I have found 3 places "stateside" that perform this ceremony. 1 place in Dallas, and 2 in the Florida area. Captain Slate's has already responded with a little information. I have yet to contact Capt Sterling's.

I am hoping that someone out there might have some first hand knowledge of other operators that might perform this type of ceremony and hopefully can lead to me a website that I might do some more research.

I know there are operations in other countries but under present circumstances I believe I would prefer the "comforts and safety" of "home".

Thanks in advance for any input you can give. It would be deeply appreciated.

he may kill me for this but MSILVIA can marry you. Not sure if it has to be in Massachusetts though.

A friend was also telling me about this underwater hotel in Florida, she isn't around but she'll be back next week - if you are interested I can get the info from her... aparently, they even have room service and bring your meals down to you. Sounded real bizaar.

Anyway, congrats and good luck!

I can do that, as can any scuba certified ordained minister, rabbi, justice of the peace, or what have you. The easiest way might be to have one of your local scuba buddies get themselves ordained through http://www.ulc.org. It's so easy it may not seem legal, but it's a federally recognised church and shouldn't be a problem.

I believe the following summarizes the Kentucky laws on the matter:
Marriages may be performed by any minister of the gospel or priests of any denomination with any religious society. --- Ministers must be licensed before performing marriages. See the local county clerk for a license. --- Ministers must return the marriage license and marriage certificate to the county clerk within 3 months after the marriage. --- It is illegal to solicit marriages. --- For questions see the county clerk.

As a side note....CONGRADULATIONS.

I know of some people married in Devil's Lake in Wisconsin, but I don't know the specifics. If you like, it may take some time, but I could look into it.

It's just like getting someone to marry you anywhere else, except of course that they have to be able to dive. Aside from the ambiance, there's no reason you should have to travel to do this.

If you want, I'd be willing to perform the ceremony if you want to fly me down and put me up, but I'd be willing to bet you could find a friend who'll do it.

I don't have any personal experience with underwater weddings (still single :eek:ut: ), but I have dived with Capt Slate's and they run a great operation, so you won't be disappointed. I would steer away from Jules Underwater Hotel which was mentioned. The rooms are small, the viz is around 10 ft at best, and costs way too much. Good luck and congratulations.

I really appreciate the input.

I have known about the underwater hotel for a couple of years and after doing research on it a while back have decided not to give it a whirl.

Capt Slate's ops has been in contact with me and we are working on some details.

The Caribbean as Tavi has mentioned also might be possible. It seems it might be a little safer. I also have thought about Bonaire and tying it in with the Board's trip there next year but I am still researching that as well.

MSilva, thank you so much for the offer and you never know, we may call on your services. I have been know to do some crazier things in my life.

Anyway, I again want to thank all of you for your input and wishes.
