An instructor couple I know were married underwater on an island (I can't remember) but he told me that he found over a dozen tropical destinations that did underwater marriages. Also they had several still/video photographer friends and were able to put together quite an album.

Dave:
I'm very happy for you and Kath. Please extend my congratulations to her.
I love the underwater idea. But if it doesn't work out at least getting married outside, or on the beach would also be lovely.
I have seen pretty underwater skins for brides to wear.

May you have many more happy years together!

I had my underwater wedding at Captain Slate's. We only had once glitch. I had wanted the ceremony videotaped along with still pictures, but they only had one person when we arrived to do the videotaping. They quickly scrambled and found someone to take the still photos. It was alot of fun even though I'm now divorced. We also rented their glass-bottom boat for our non-diving family (mostly everyone) to watch. I wouldn't recommend that because the boat wasn't over where we were and the glass bottom part is small. We did swim under the boat, though, and wave to everyone. Other than the problem with the photographer, I think everything went wonderfully well.

My husband wore a black wetsuit with a white bow tie, and I had a specially-made white skirt and veil. I wore a white bathing suit under the skirt. Also had fresh flowers for a bouquet. They held up great in the saltwater and supposedly the fish love them. They just weren't loving them that day. Hmm, wonder if that was a sign?

Anyway, our wedding was also videotaped for a special show in England. I'm not sure if the show ever aired in England, but it did make it to an outrageous wedding show on one of those channels like Lifetime.

We also were filmed in the Jules Undersea Lodge. Don't waste your money. Like Thomas said, the viz is horrible and there are not alot of fish around.

What's wrong with getting married in the kelp forests of the Channel Islands and having the garibaldi's around with the seals?

Let me know if I can be of any further assistance.

Stacey

Thanks Mom, I will pass along your well wishes to Kath. I am still trying to get her to sign on to the Board so everyone could meet her, one day maybe.

PA/Njdiver I really appreciate your input. I am leaning very heavily to Capt. slate's primarily because of their rep in the dive industry. To be able to chat with someone who has experienced the ordeal is great. Sorry to hear it didn't work out for you. We are also considering the stills as well as the video, and the glass bottom boat. Your info on the boat may make me reconsider that part. My kids should all be certified by the time we get married, Kath's 2 sons aren't real happy with water yet so they would be the main obstacle.

Maybe we can tie it in with Wreckamania II, because I am sure I will be a wreck by then and everyone could enjoy a sunken blimp. :jester:

Herman, I have researched the Bonaire wedding as well and have not ruled that out. Thanks.

There is someone in Maui who does it.

i used to be a profesional Best Man/Photographer

We would do a lot of weddings on a sail boat called the Scotch Mist and occationaly that would be done underwater.

We would take our 50 sloop, race ready sailboat out to a nice little private cove. Our Captain was a minister and a diver. and we both worked for a wedding planning service. so it fit in well.

anyways we would drop down to about 30 feet on a beautifull reef with lots of fish and turttles. usualy things where done with slates. I would take pictures and sign the registar as the wittness/ best man. at the end of the service I would release a bunch of frozen peas over their head which would attract hundreds of beautiful reef fish to swim right through and around us.

one time we even did a naked underwater wedding, but thats a different story

We would then surface and go on a great sunset sail with champane and all the trimmings, we would even offer the for berth to consomate the marriage if they so pleased. about 40% took advantage of this offer...... of course i was there to take pictures of that too.....no not really

Make your wedding special as you only do it two or three times in your whole life, so make it something to remember.

oh one last thing.

You know why the wedding dress is white............ so the diswasher matches the stove

First off, congratulations and best wishes to you and your fiancee. However, you have piqued my curiosity a bit...

In searching the web I have found 3 places "stateside" that perform this ceremony. 1 place in Dallas, and 2 in the Florida area.

Where, exactly, did you find someone in Dallas that does this? It's news to me, and I would be interested in finding out where they perform the ceremony.

I used a search engine www.mamma.com and typed "underwater weddings". That gave me a quite a few websites, one of which is http://www.wedding-ceremony.com/scuba.htm

Aquatec, thanks for your input as well. Again, Maui is another consideration that I am looking into. Having been their twice it is without a doubt one of my favorites.

I am sure glad that I don't have any hair on my head because I guarantee you if I did I would have pulled it out by now. :D

I would steer away from Jules Underwater Hotel which was mentioned. The rooms are small, the viz is around 10 ft at best, and costs way too much. Good luck and congratulations.

It's really disappointing to hear that about JUL. I knew it was expensive, but the rooms in all the pictures I'd seen looked bigger than that. The vis also looked better than 10 feet and I thought there were plenty of fish around. Oh well...I'd still like to see it for myself, even if I don't get to spend the night.
