Edwardsville, Illinois

Southern Illinois University

Good schools. I know. It doesn't matter.

Building "Supposedly" the third largest ymca in the US..

About 25 miles from St. Louis.
Carbondale, Illinois

My lovely hometown. Has original Southern Illinois University and has the awesome Shawnee Forest all around with great lakes and large rock formations. Have not done diving down there yet but I'm sure there is plenty. Lot's of strip mines and for some real muck there is even Laroo Swamp. Hiking, camping, mountain biking, rock climbing, fishing, hunting, boating, and much more. Great small party town college atmoshpere and nice folks. I was fortunate to grow up there and you have 4 states within 1/2 hour to 1 hour drive away. Now I'm up here in Chicago but sorely miss it at times.

Too bad Ohio is out. Brookville, Ohio is a nice town on I-70 only 30 minutes from Dayton OH and Richmond IN. They don't do daylight savings time in Richmond so going to dinner in summer means you don't see the lines you would in Dayton at the same time.

Wright State University is close, so is the University of Dayton. If you live outside the city limits you can buy a nice little house for a reasonable price not sure about renting but it shouldn't be too expensive. This is a farming community that's close to the perks of the city. It's also less than 2 hours from Gilboa :)

Small world. I went to school there.... Thing I hated about Carbondale. It was the biggest town in area. I like living near a big city. Or at least a medium city.

But, I stay in Carbondale to dive at Mermet sometimes. Go to old bars I used to hang out at. And Giant City was fun for Rock Climbing. And racing Motorcycles coming out the back end onto 51 I think.

Received my BS in Social Work in C'dale in '73. Haven't read a Daily Eyptian since. Never did Mermet 'cuz I wasn't diving then but have heard of it.

Well up here in the Chi-town you have Haigh Quarry in Kankakee, Pearl Lake in South Beloit, Illinois and good ole Lake Michigan. If you want to travel to Wisconsin you can dive that side of Lake Michigan. Racine, Wisconsin (2 hour drive) doesn't have good diving anymore. If you wanna go to Indiana there's Frances Park (which is a 3 hour drive).
