I currently have a Balance and like it. I am finding that I traveling more to tropical places.
I am asking for help with replacing my Balance with a bp/w. I am not a tech diver so I don't need all that. My requirements would be lightweight and cost is a factor. The Balance is weight integrated and I like that, but going to a belt isn't out of the question.

If you have a recommendation, a website for information and purchase would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. :D

The Zeagle Express Tech may work well for you. It is a lightweight BP/w (around 4 lbs) that works well for travel and as a regular BC as long as you don't want to do doubles. There are several threads on the board talking about it. Do a search and read up on them. At around $250 it's a good deal. You can add a weight intergration if you like although I don't see the need for that in a travel BC.

I would highly recommend a Deep Sea Supply Kydex plate and one of the smaller wings. If you don't need much weight, Tobin has a 17 lb tropical wing that is a delight to dive. The whole rig disassembles for easy packing, and it weighs next to nothing. You would need a weight belt, though.

Wader:

For tropical, I bought a DSS setup (SS plate, hog harness, crotch strap, T-17 wing plus cam bands and the wedge blocks) and love it. That plate is heavy but might eliminate the need for a weight belt. The unit is just rock solid. On land and in the water.

If weight was an issue, you could swap the SS plate for a Kydex plate.

You can buy integerated pockets for a BP/W but I don't like them. Instead, I suggest the DUI Weight & Trim Classic (weight belt, harness, with very nice release mechanism) if you want something more than a standard weight belt. The only real negative to the Weight & Trim: cost.

I have heard good things about the Zeagle Express and it might be a good choice for you. I am very happy with what I bought (the DSS with the T-17 wing) and would not trade it for the Zeagle.

Thanks for the recommendations. What is Kydex, that is a new term for me. I am guessing some sort of plastic.

I have seen the Zeagle on the board and it sounds like a good deal. I was hoping for a much info as possible because once I make a decision and buy, I am stuck with it. My LDS is no help in this area.

Where can I see pics and get specs for the DUI Bonaire mentioned? Also, what are the pro's/cons of going with SS, Kydex, etc.
I would not be diving doubles, so that is not worthy of any consideration. Also, I run 'warm' when diving. I don't get cold easy. I dove just a straight 3mm in Hawaii for a week and of Channel Islands I wore a 7mm with a 3 mm, no gloves and was just fine for 3 days in November. I mention this as for what I would need for weights.

Since I have never put together my own system, would the following work or do I need to add something?

1. Oxycheq ultra lite BP ($48.)-Scuba toys
2. Hollis Elite Harness ($75) -last years model- Scuba toys
3. A Wing. (Looking for a sale, suggestions?)

Do I need a single tank adapter, or any other gaget, gizmo or widget? I looked and a Zeagle Express Tech deluxe was $292 so I guess that is my target to beat for cost unless I can justify something more as being better or lighter.
Thanks

Hi wader,

Kydex is atough thermoplastic. Kyde is commomly used for gun holsters, aircraft interiors etc.

If you plan to use this gear for tropical and cold water diving a stainless plate is a better choice.

The required wing size is a function of the buoyancy of your exposure suit, if you wish to use the same wing for warm & cold water it has to offer lift greater than the buoyancy of your 7mm suit.

There's a few different solutions to your application. I'd be happy to speak with you. I should be in the office most of tomorrow. 626-799-5078.

Forgive the short reply, I'm still learning to use my new Smart Phone.

Thanks, But I definitely do not want a jacket style. The Hollis is a great rig, but too much for my budget.
