:rofl3: Dang near sprayed my coffee on the computer screen. Good one!

Seriously, this is more of an "ewwww, yuck" issue than a real health concern. But, he needs to do what ever makes him most comfortable.

Just wait until he figures out all of the fish poop he'll be swimming around...

once dad slaps a mask on and sees the stuff floating in the pool, he won't want to take that rental reg out of his mouth.

Whilst your Dad's concern is clearly real ... it is entirely without basis. When I see students fixate on things that have no basis; it sets off an alarm bell that says, "doesn't really want to dive." So I watch those students extra close. At least mention your observations to the instructor.

I'm going to get open water certified in June and my dad wants to go with me but he is weary b/c he doesnt want to use the same regulator someone else already used for another class. How does this work? He thinks that he will be breathing through something someone else has breathed through and thats just something my dad would never do. I bought him a mouthpiece for it, but I wanted to hear what you all had to say about them and the situtation before I presented it to him. Thanks for any and all opinions and ideas.:D
Ask your dad if he ever kissed a woman. Your dad wouldn’t be Larry David by any chance? Just rinse the mouthpiece in the ocean a few times. Besides the gas fumes in the air tank will kill any remaining bacteria.

Please forgive my poor sense of humor. It’s late and my wife who doesn’t dive has my old very overweight body scheduled for a cold Pacific, high current, deep water, poor visibility shark dive in two weeks.

Air delivered to the mouthpiece of the second stage is as sterile as the compressor/tank/first stage/LP hose can make it. Plenty good enuf for me!!

If your LDS uses close to what our LDS uses for Chlorine in the pool, I'd believe that any equipment is sufficiently disinfected by simply being in the pool. ....
John,

Do you mean Disinfected or Disintegrated?:D! If I'm thinking of the same pool(s), I would certainly agree - the stuff in them will "deal" anything.
