I'm impressed you made the transition from tropical to cold water diving! A lot of folks struggle when they first dive with thick suits, a lot more weight, and cold water.

(And for what it's worth, I learned to dive in 1985 and didn't make it to the USAT Liberty until 2018. You got a treat early!)
Hah, my first cold water dive was rough! But cold water has its' own advantages. I find kelp forests mesmerizing and, in my current situation, driving to NYC area dive sites doesn't require vacation days or air travel.
