Hey guys. Just thought I would take a minute to introduce myself. My name is Bret and I'm from Winston-Salem, NC. I am in my 4th and final year of Pharmacy School at UNC Chapel Hill. I am currently living in Wilmington, NC while I do rotations for pharmacy school. My fiance and I started our OW certification class this past Monday. We went diving for the first time last summer while we were in Belize (we did Discover Scuba.) After that we've been hooked. We waited until we came to Wilmington to take our class. We've heard the diving is pretty good around here, so we are definitely excited to explore the underwater world. I look forward to learning as much as I can from this site. Thanks in advance for all the help y'all will provide.

Bret

Welcome Bret! I've heard NC has pretty good wreck diving.

Thanks for the warm welcome guyy and gals. I'm definitely excited about wreck diving. Do y'all think I should go ahead and get my Nitrox certification after I complete my OW certification or get some dives under my belt before I start something new?

One last thing: my legs cramped pretty badly last night in the pool. Is that normal when you first start diving? It didn't happen when I was in Belize, but I was using full foot fins instead of the adjustable ones I have now. Could that make a difference?

Welcome! I live in Raleigh when I'm home. Plans are to go work in the USVI again (travel nursing). Yes, the wrecks in NC are fabulous, but not for inexperienced divers due to the depth and changing conditions. I'm sure you have already found a shop to dive with. Good luck and welcome to NC.

You should have no problem getting your nitrox cert because it's just a few hours in a class room-no diving is even involved. I got my OW, followed closely by my AOW. I want to dive as much as I can while the weather is warm...when it's too cold to dive i'm going to do the nitrox course.
