Sudan. Shaab Rhumi, where Cousteau built his underwater dwellings, Conshelf.
Titan triggerfish in mating season attacking us with intent.
One bit into a fin (not mine) and shaked it's head like a pit bull terrier. After a while of this the fin came off and the Titan swam away with it. The diver didn't follow!!

About two weeks ago I was diving at a local spot practicing some buoyancy. Next thing I know I look behind me and there goes my find up towards the surface luckily i grabbed it before it took off.

Lost a force fin a couple of weeks ago making a surf exit, it was ripped right off my foot. Fortunately, a local LDS was having a going out of business sale last weekend and the owner has been collecting single fins for forty years and I got a replacement for $15. It's even the same color... almost... if you squint... and it's dark. I'm going to get the bungie straps for them.

Had the same dilema severa years ago. Came up to the boat (private boat) with very little air left and high seas. Went to take off one of my USD Rocket fins and the strap gave way. I layed there on the surface watching in pain as my fin twirled it's way down, down and finally out of sight. I went ahead and bought another set of Rockets, with the belief that sooner or later I'd probably lose another one and then I'd be "whole" again. As it all worked out I never did lose another fin and to this day I have 3 Rocket Fins.

Not sure what to tell you to do but if it was me and I really liked the fins I'd go ahead and buy another pair. You might contact the company and see if they'd just sell you one fin ...but I kinda doubt that they would.

I've never lost a fin, but I have broken a few straps. Never happens at a good time. I now make spring straps & put them on all our fins, no more broken straps.

Yep - and it sucked!

We were at monestary beach, monterey. My buddy was from that area originaly so I let him take the lead. I don't know if I didn't get the strap on all the way or what but we waded out into a pretty good (even for monestery beach) surf and started to time our 'entry' well my buddy yelled "NOW!" and so we dove for the Oversized swell and what I hadn't realized was I was about 3 - 4 ft behind him. Anyhow he made it into the swell -I landed on the sand with a 120 ft3 bottle on my back ;-) and then got the full force of that silly swell. I didn't want that to happen again so I started kicking like a salmon trying to get up stream in the shallows - only to have nothing on my left foot!

I got the snot beat out of me getting turned around and crawlling out. If you have never dove monestery beach you just can't understand that 'crawl'. Once out, all I could do is sit there and watch the ocean show me the fin every couple of minutes, I'm sure it was just to p!$$ me off even more.

Same thing happened to me at Monastery and I barely made it out alive. Lost a fin upon trying the surf entry, as well as my mask apparently, and didn't have the strength to push myself through the swell. Got batted about and rolled by the surf zone, thank God for dive buddies. Bought new fins after I got out of the hospital, split fins for $190 for the pair, still not quite used to them (granted it's only been 8 dives). Still miss my old cheap pair of stiff, short, hot pink, no-name fins.

I'm glad you got out. It's a heck of a fight on a good day - we were there on a marginal ( at best) day. A number of people needed boat rescue - they wouldn't TRY to come back in. BTW that was a pair of apollo bios ( black ) I was wearing that day eyebrow
That was one of those days that teach you the meaning of baggin the day, murphy was along for the ride, If it could have gone wrong that day, it did.

Buddy had to talk me out of jumpin in after that fin with a pony bottle. As I sat on the beach, every couple of minutes or so, the surf would 'almost' toss the fin up on the sand but then at the last second and just before I could grab it it would drag it back in.

While still fairly inexperienced, I was trying to get on the ladder of a boat heaving in rough seas. There was no grab bar or tag line, so I was holding onto the ladder while de-finning. I don't remember exactly what happened, but one fin got ripped from my hand and started to drift away and sink at the same time. It was a pretty darn expensive Mares Volo, and I was not thrilled. I threw myself in the water and went after it with one fin, with the strap still loosened for removal. I got it at about 15 feet down, fortunately, drawing a sarcastic but enthusiatic ovation from all who were watching.
