Yes, at a friends house here in FL. I didnt live here yet, had a spare set of gear at his house........one day there was one left. So technically he lost it, but practically I had to get a new set. :-)

I lost one US Divers Rocket fin on my first wreck dive. Trashed the other and bought a new pair.

Life is tough sometimes.

I've lost two complete pairs. Actually, that's better than losing just one, I think. You don't feel compelled to have to look for the lost "one". The first set was lost near Hawaii Kai on Oahu when a rogue wave washed everyone away, including several people sunning themselves. We were so busy rescuing people that I lost track of the fins, but managed to round up the rest of my gear. The second pair was on return of the dive boat from a trip (cattle boat), they simply disappeared. Actually they probably walked away, but I couldn't prove it. Both sets were USD Rocket fins and pretty old when they were lost. The second pair were even starting to dry rot, I had them for almost 20 years at that point and other than some sentimental value and a month old set of spring straps, no big loss. My wife thought I might finally gain my wits and buy a new pair of fad fins, but alas, I bought my 3rd pair of Rockets (and the first new pair so far, the first pair being hand me down Navy issue and the second being used when I bought them).

Scuba Brad:
Have you EVER lost a fin?
Yes
Scuba Brad:
And what does one do with ONE fin?
I bought a new pair of the same fins and tossed the odd fin in my misc dive gear box in case I lose one of the new fins.
Scuba Brad:
Was it a Tusa open heel?
Nope, it was a Reeflex.
Scuba Brad:
Ok now tell me your story
There is not much to it. Before I switched to jet/rocket/turtle fins and spring straps, I got tangled in a line and in the process of getting free, the compression of my drysuit was enough to allow the rubber strap to slip free and the fin to come off. By the time I was loose, the fin was out of sight.

Scuba Brad:
...Ok so here is the question: Have you EVER lost a fin? And what does one do with ONE fin? Was it a Tusa open heel?....
Happy Diving

cant say i did - the tip from me would be follow the ernst ritter example and get actively involved in a sharkattack / bite, that might make the one fin useful for you again :D. if you like i will send you my beta version of "attacked but properly - a shark feeding and spearfishing guide for ignorants" , ok j/k!

actually did anyone ever contacted the manufacturer and ask for 1! replacement fin - with the loads they make (and most of them anyway not right / left foot designed) it shouldnt be a prob! would be interested to see the replies!

happy bubbles, sven

Funny thread. I have never lost one but a lady in our open water class lost one fin not once, not twice but three times on the first day. The instructor kept diving down to get it and was becoming a little annoyed by the third time. He was very professional though and never complained and was gracious about the whole thing. The next day it happened again. She got all her gear used from some friends and it was well worn. If I remember right they determined it was the detertorating fin strap and its buckle.

Well now you get to practice your Dolphin Kick...:D

Wing Nut I think we are finding that to be WAY to common. Now if I could just find someone who lost one my size.

Keep um coming!

I've tried real hard to lose a fin a couple times, but have never permanently lost one.

The first time was when someone had their foot on my fin as I did a backroll off a small boat. He realized it as I was going over and removed his foot in time for it to go sailing over my head and land behind me. I thought it was still on the boat until I saw him pointing. I grabbed it, put it on and did the dive. During the SI we found out that nobody noticed other than him and me.

The second time was during Rescue class. I dropped a fin in the surf while doing a simulated rescue. A snorkler found it about an hour later, rolling around in the shorebreak.
