Let me set the record straight, that was me diving to 2000'; I tapped that cable at 600' and I invented Trimix? EGO? What ego? :)
 
Ok, I did speed read this but I kinda knew where it was going.
An analogy. Remember the first Desert Storm, where the tanks were getting lost in the desert and were calling home for Garmins?

The military was far behind the curve of what was available on the private market. (And a lot of the edge of the curve in navigational equipment has been driven by the private nautical market)

Same applies in diving. "Recreational". "Technical" or whatever, tends to push the envelope. Military tends to find esoteric applications within the game.
